ENGINEERS - we are in a FINANCIAL CRISIS putting our support for you at risk 🆘 ❌ Since the IET stopped collecting donations for us with membership renewals in September 2023, we have lost 35,000 donations which help fund our life-changing support. 👥 This means around 992 grants for struggling engineering families will be out of our budget – grants that help them pay their rent or mortgage, put food on the table, access mental health support, and get urgent medical care. 🤝 In 2022-23, donations from people like you helped us support more engineering families through life's challenges than ever before. That's why we’re asking you to support us through our own. 🙏 We're looking for 14,160 people in our community to donate just £25 a year to help us continue providing our life-changing support. If you can, please make a donation today: https://lnkd.in/evZxnqfn Listen to our Trustee and Honorary Treasurer Gareth Price’s statement ⬇ SHARE this post to help us spread the word ♻ Alan Watts / Alison Lanchester / Andy Rogers CEng FIET / Dolores Byrne / Joe Dunn / John Gleeson / Virginia Hodge / Wolf Byttner #Engineering #Engineers #Donate #Fundraising #Charity #IET #FinancialCrisis #Funding

I would love to know how a last minute change of funding goal posts from Perth & Kinross Council aligns with The Scottish Government 's #EthicalCommissioning principles which are person led care and support, human rights approach, full involvement of people with lived experience, outcomes focussed practice, high quality care and support, fair working practices, financial transparency, sustainable prices and commercial viability, shared accountability and last, but not least, climate and circular economy. (Iriss 's recent report on Ethical Commissioning in Alcohol and Drug Services is a great resource across all aspects of public health and wellbeing related areas! (https://lnkd.in/egMzSVQf) Social Flock (Perth) is a grassroots organisation very local to me. They are mostly staffed by volunteers and run on a shoe string with majority funding going on projects like Winter Warmer Packs for kids. Last year they lovingly created 700 packs from preloved clothing donations and bought new items where they did not have the donations. This year Perth & Kinross Council changed the goal posts at the same time of opening the fund that was used to finance these packs. #ChallengePovertyWeek was last week. We know 1 in 4 children in #PerthandKinross are in poverty. PKC has signed posted Social Flock to other funders knowing that a) its October in Scotland and the temperatures have already plummeted b) what funder has an application process that would turn it about in super quick time. Again I am seeing a council maintaining a defensible position about funding, while not finding alternative clothing packs for 700 children and totally relying on a small grassroots organisation to pull something out of thin area. Apart from being frustrated and annoyed on behalf of Social Flock I want to highlight that this is exactly why great The Scottish Government policies like #EthicalCommissioning will never be implemented at local level. Yes funding is extremely impacted in all local authorities but it doesn't mean you can't apply #EthicalCommissioning principles! We have to bring *NON* ethical commissioning practices out in the open and ask local authorities, NHS and Health and Social Care Partnerships to do better. In this instance it is at least 700 children across #PerthandKinross who absolutely lose out. The Poverty Alliance Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) PKAVS COSLA Perth & Kinross Anti-Poverty Task Force #Transparency #EthicalCommissioning #PolicyImplementationGap #Scotland #WorkWithCommunities #ShiftThePower #WinterWarmerPacks
Our Winter Warmer applications are now open, providing winter clothing to children in Perth and Kinross - but with a sad caveat. Please watch the accompanying video from founder and trustee, Rachael that explains the impact of the reduced funding from Perth & Kinross Council If you are in a position to donate and help fund our scheme, then please get in touch - you can remain anonymous or be praised to the rafters! For anyone that wants to access the service, they can do so here: https://lnkd.in/evEAUd8e - we had 102 applications in the first hour of the scheme being available, showing that there is a chronic need as families try to balance squeezed budgets. #charity #scotland #circulareconomy

Appeals are a vital way for us to raise life-changing funds for engineers and their families 📢 As an independent charity, appeals enable us to connect with our supporters and fundraise for grants and resources to help people in the engineering community who need support. This is even more important now that Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) members can no longer donate through their IET membership. Our current appeal shines a spotlight on engineers and their families facing unexpected crises. In 2022-23, over 38,000 people made a donation to help us be there for people experiencing desperate circumstances - like redundancy, poverty, wellbeing crises and more. By answering our appeals and donating whatever they can afford, our supporters help to ensure we can continue to provide life-changing support for people in our community when they need us most. Interesting report in the UK today, on a reduction in charitable donations by wealthier individuals - looking forward to understanding the local context with the launch shortly of Island Global Research Charitable Giving report and our own plans to boost local giving. https://lnkd.in/ecMuwAFQ

This simple step helps make a huge difference in the lives of those who need it most
Our clients have helped to raise a milestone £1million for the SJP Charitable Foundation by switching to paperless correspondence. With every switch we donate £5 to the Charitable Foundation, helping to reduce our environmental impact whilst funding valuable community causes across the UK and overseas. This means that charities like Jamie’s Farm, who run a therapeutic programme centred around farming, family, and therapy to help young people thrive academically, socially and emotionally at school, can continue making a positive impact. Thank you to all SJP clients who have made the switch – see the difference it’s made for charities like Jamie’s Farm below: https://ow.ly/uEOR50RRoFG
