Kids are our future...and our future workforce! We know children who have high-quality, early childhood education will go to kindergarten socially, emotionally, and academically ready and will have a higher chance of being successful throughout school and going on to enter our workforce ready to succeed. That’s what we all want for kids in our community! Last year, 1,133 local kids were enrolled in high-quality, early education, thanks to people like you who give. This is just one of the ways your gifts make a difference! Those kids now have a better chance of succeeding in school…and in life. That’s the power of community. https://bit.ly/3VXQ4uG

I am excited to share another milestone! But why "Understanding the Child Better"? Is it related to IT? Is it required for your job applications? Are you shifting to another field of work? My answer is NO. I just felt it was time to explore and learn new things outside my comfort zone, way outside my comfort zone 😃 . Take a leap and enjoy the journey. This course is about theoretical perspectives on children and child development and children’s situation, with a focus on children in need of special protection. It aims to develop a better understanding of children as the foundation for the development and conduct of effective and relevant activities and programs in support of child rights protection and promotion. Source: https://model.upou.edu.ph/ With over a decade of advocating for child education (shoutout to World Vision PH) and being a mother myself, this course has helped me embrace children's differences and appreciate all the people who nurture them. Truly, it's important to continue learning and growing, even outside of our chosen careers.

Time in Nature -- Connecting people to nature is what we are about at ODC Network! The variety of teams within our organization (Programming, Conservation Services, Education Network, Preschools, Greenway, Land and Water, Design & Construction) work to conserve, steward, educate and connect people to the outdoors! -- I was reading an article in The Washington Post that highlights how impactful spending time outdoors is on our children and wanted to share what some of the takeaways with you. -- The physical, cognitive, social and emotional benefits are real. This article highlights a variety of studies around these topics that are worth diving into. One statistic that stood out to me: the average American spends 90% of their day indoors....think about that. Do you and/or your kids fall into that category? -- Play in nature is less structured, offering freedom from the typical rigors of planned lives. As my kids have grown, the pull of "commitments" can become more to manage and something we need to actively create space around. Kids are overly structured in today's world. What would it look like to give them more freedom and let them be "bored"? -- I appreciated the last section of this article, which highlights how to help get more green time for kids. The first part is "start small". Love this! Don't make the effort of getting outdoors so outsized that nothing happens. Start where you are and grow into it! #outdoor #outdooreducation #conservation #naturebasedplay
