Being a 1% for the Planet Business Member means every day is Giving Tuesday. Today, Enharmonic Encounters celebrates its commitment to people and the planet by highlighting its partnership with Black Outside, Inc. Based in San Antonio, Texas, Black Outside, Inc. was launched in 2019 to reconnect Black youth to the outdoors through culturally relevant outdoor experiences, exposing students to the history of Black people in nature and inspiring a new generation of outdoor participants. Alex Bailey, the organization's Founder and Executive Director, sees and understands the impact of outdoor programming in the lives of youth. With only 1% of participants in Texas state parks identifying as Black, there is clearly a void to be filled. And so the partnership continues! While this commitment is maintained, Enharmonic Encounters goes above and beyond by committing to direct 5% of company revenue to charitable partners each year. United Way of Tompkins County’s Youth and Philanthropy Grant is accepting applications from area 501c3 non-profits, exempt charitable organizations, exempt municipal/community organizations, and exempt education organizations. - The YAP students from Tompkins County area high schools will review all applications and decide how to allocate $25,000 in available funds. - It is suggested that grant requests be in the $500-$5,000 range. - - All applications must clearly identify how the grant funding will address specific community needs and how those needs were identified.  - Requests do not have to be youth-centered or align with United Way's typical impact areas.  - Please consider the audience you are addressing (teenagers) when completing your application. Grant applications are due by Monday, October 30th. #GiveToTheMaxDay is a big deal in Minnesota. It starts to feel fun when you can browse through an enormous list of non-profits that are working tirelessly to change the world and make even a small contribution to that mission. I'm particularly proud of my company, Clockwork, and the way in which the entire crew shows up on this day. As part of our employee-advised charitable giving efforts, Clockwork offers employees two ways to support the nonprofit, school, or religious institution of their choosing during Give to the Max Day. Every Clockworker is given a 'giving card' to donate to the organization(s) of their choice. Then our folks are encouraged to make contributions over and above the card amounts, and Clockwork will match those additional donations up to $100. The day takes on a whole new meaning when we do it this way. All day long, people are sharing information in Slack and talking about the organizations they love. The process energizes, educates, and engages Clockworkers in a way few efforts can. There's almost nothing like how you feel when participating in making change. It brings us together around this common hope for making the world better. And God knows we need to be better. Politics divides us. It hurts my heart. I know I have people that I am connected to who do not agree with me politically. I also know so many of them are decent humans, and we have more things in common than things that divide us. I also know that most of us want the same things - to be seen, heard, valued, and respected. We want what we work for to matter. We want our families to be safe. I long for a day when we can return to civil discourse and listening to understand instead of arguing. I know I am working hard to get there myself. On this #GiveToTheMaxDay I want to encourage you to participate and bring your friends, neighbors, family, and colleagues along.
