We are proud to be among 24 institutions across the country participating in the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC) by Duffy Status Project. This project, funded by the Doris Duke Foundation, will aim to establish new ANC reference ranges for individuals with Duffy null status. Excited to contribute to this important work and advance equitable care for all.

We would like to present the article “Current scenario and future perspectives of clinical research in Brazil: a national survey” published in eCancer Medical Science by Dr. Heloisa Resende, LACOG member and President of the Scientific Committee of the Instituto Projeto Cura and other authors. An anonymous online survey was sent by e-mail to Brazilian members of the Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group and the Brazilian Society of Clinical Oncology. The first questions addressed demographic information, medical training and previous research participation. In the second part, the main barriers to engagement and participation in clinical trials in Brazil were addressed. The results suggest a clear need to further engage physicians in clinical research activities in Brazil. Patient education strategies should improve the low recruitment rates and secondarily increase the number of proposed trials in the country. Learn more in the link: https://lnkd.in/dmeCRkSH

✨✨✨In the population of patients with oligometastatic CRPC, SBRT enables long-term biochemical response and PFS. ✨✨ In the oligoprogressive setting, SBRT could be integrated to prolong the duration and efficacy of systemic therapies. ✨✨✨ Nevertheless, the level of evidence remains very low and inclusion within prospective trials remain the preferred option for this population of patients. ✅PEACE 8 TRIAL to start very soon to evaluate this strategy 🇫🇷 Jennifer Le Guévelou Ronan Flippot David Pasquier Association Francaise d'Urologie - AFU Unicancer Amethyst Radiothérapie France Tamim Niazi McGill University https://lnkd.in/ekSaTVnw

I'm excited to announce the publication of our new scientific article released today in the scientific journal: Lasers in Medical Science (doi: 10.1007/s10103-023-03940-w). ✅ 📢 🔖 It was an honor to contribute from conceptualization, through searches and bias analyses, to review cycles. The research field of oral mucositis and oncology patients has always fascinated me. 🔎 🔬 In this systematic review, we once again demonstrate that photobiomodulation not only reduces the incidence of oral mucositis (alleviating pain, preventing oncology treatment interruptions, addressing malnutrition, and mitigating other outcomes associated with this side effect) but also improves patients' quality of life. 🧘♀️ ⚕ 🧠 We're one step closer to emphasizing the significance of oral care in healthcare and advocating for a holistic approach to patient well-being. ✊ Check it out on PubMed link below ⬇ https://lnkd.in/d7fXXUQs

During a podium session at #AUA24, our own vice chair of research, Michael Leapman, MD, MHS, presented the results of a recent study titled Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen [PSMA] Imaging Findings and Subsequent Clinical Management Among #Patients with Biochemical Recurrent #ProstateCancer: A Retrospective Cohort Study. The #research's objective was to evaluate #clinicalmanagement in the six-month period following the first PSMA-PET scan in relation to imaging findings in the area following the approval of PSMA-PET in the United States. Director of Clinical Chemistry and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
I’m honored to have been selected as part of the inaugural class of Future Leaders in the field of Medical Laboratory Immunology. The more time I spend with these folks, the more sure I am that I have chosen the right field. Clinical laboratory medicine combines everything I love about the bench with everything I loved about patient care. #clinicalchemistry #medicallaboratory #clinicalimmunology #immunology
Congratulations to the AMLI inaugural recipients of the Future Leaders of Medical Laboratory Immunology award: Dr. May Choi (University of Calgary, Alberta), Ria Fyffe-Freil, Ph.D. (Mayo Clinic, Rochester), and Dr. DHARMENDRA JAIN (University of Utah School of Medicine).

It's an honour to announce that our paper (my first last-author paper), on the role of Myb in the initiation and maintenance of T-ALL, has been published in #HemaSphere. I would like to congratulate the first author #AndréDeAlmeida for all the hard work and successfully finalising this research project. A big thanks to all members from #PVVlab and #Goossenslab and to all our collaborators. Key findings in André's paper: - MYB copy number gains (CNG) are associated with inferior event-free survival of pediatric T-ALL patients - Unequal distribution of MYB cCNG in T-ALL subtypes - Myb overexpression synergizes with specific oncogenic drivers. It synergizes with Pten loss but not with Lmo2 activation. - MYB is a dependency factor in T-ALL and a interesting therapeutic target for all T-ALL subtypes. https://lnkd.in/e7jNi-dy

Emily Spaulding is one of CMTA-STAR's 40 Under 40! ⭐ When the CMTA implemented its Strategy to Accelerate Research in 2008, a key component was enlisting investigators and scientists from an international body of the world’s most accomplished medical pioneers. Our integrated team of top scientists and industry partners working together toward a common goal is what sets the CMTA-STAR program apart and what drives its remarkable success. Today, the next generation of researchers—our 40 Under 40—is making significant strides in reshaping our comprehension of CMT. Their passion, expertise and relentless pursuit of scientific breakthroughs and high-quality patient care play a pivotal role in driving progress towards effective treatments and, ultimately, a more promising future for the CMT community. Spaulding’s research with Dr. Robert Burgess at The Jackson Laboratory revealed that a cellular stress response contributes to neuropathy in CMT types caused by mutations in tRNA synthetase genes. Mice with mutations in glycyl-tRNA synthetase (CMT2D) and tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase (CMTDIC) show increased levels of stress response activation only in the largest motor and sensory nerve cells. Blocking a key player in the stress response, GCN2, significantly improves neuropathy symptoms of CMT2D mice. GCN2 inhibition now represents a possible therapeutic strategy for patients with tRNA synthetase-associated CMT. Learn about all of the CMTA-STAR's 40 under 40: https://lnkd.in/eVDtmGDy

Clinicians with an interest in thrombophilia: Attend our next NBCA Journal Club session! The NBCA Journal Club highlights groundbreaking research in thrombosis and thrombophilia and features a manuscript author as part of the discussion. Our next session convenes June 18, 2024 from 2-3 p.m. ET to discuss, Antithrombin Therapy: Current State and Future Outlook, published in Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis in 2023. The paper’s author, George M. Rodgers, III, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies at the University of Utah School of Medicine, will join us to discuss his research. The session’s learning objectives: - Understand the genetic and acquired factors contributing to antithrombin (AT) deficiency and its implications. - Explore current treatment strategies for managing AT deficiency. - Identify specific patient populations and use cases where AT therapy may be considered and evaluate its potential benefits. - Investigate advancements and future directions in research, diagnosis, and treatment approaches for AT deficiency to enhance clinical outcomes and patient care.
