12 years ago, I ran my first half-marathon for St. Jude in Nashville. At the time, I did it for selfish reasons. My college would cover the race entry cost, and I could feel accomplished officially running a half-marathon. Four weeks ago, I went to visit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital campus as a St. Jude partner with Shaw Industries. I heard patient stories that started in fear and ended with hope. I saw parents transform from helpless to supported. I heard some of the smartest minds on the planet exude purpose and humility. All of these stories were immersed in gratitude and generosity. 7 months from today, I am going to run my first St. Jude Memphis Marathon with the Shaw Floors team. I am going to raise $1,750 and am looking for other St. Jude heroes like you to make that happen, so that we can empower the awesome work being done at St. Jude to kick cancer in the teeth. I have not one, but two challenges for you: 1. Give at least a $7 donation today with this link (https://lnkd.in/eVfspqzs). Why $7? Because it’s a comfortably low number and today is May 7th and the race is December 7th. Fun fact, $1,750 / 7 = 250 which leads me to… 2. Message 3 friends to ask them give $7 as well. Join as both a giver and an advocate and collectively raise $28 to punch cancer in the face. If you do this, not only will you be fueling a mission that matters in Memphis, but you'll be helping children all over the world (St. Jude shares all their research for free — they focus on the cure more than credit). “No child should die in the dawn of life” — Danny Thomas, Founder of St. Jude. Today, you can join me in making that more than a convicting quote, but a reality for future generations. Let’s go!

RUNNING FOR A CAUSE: THE GREAT NORTH RUN In a heartbeat, life can take an unexpected turn, hurling us into uncharted territories of challenges and resilience. For me, that turn came with my son's diagnosis of neuroblastoma, a battle that has defined our lives in ways we never imagined. Amidst the uncertainty and the countless hospital visits, one thing became crystal clear – our determination to fight alongside him, every step of the way. As I have been watching my son bravely face the relentless trials of neuroblastoma, I have felt a stirring within me—a call to action, a need to channel our collective strength into something tangible. And so, with a heart filled with hope and determination, I have made the decision to embark on a journey unlike any other: I will be participating in The Great North Run on 8th September on behalf of Young Lives vs Cancer, not just as a personal challenge, but as a beacon of support for my son's epic battle against cancer. For someone who has never run a sponsored race before, the prospect may seem daunting. But this journey isn't just about crossing the finish line—it's about making a difference. It's about rallying together to raise funds that will fuel research, support families, and bring hope to those fighting neuroblastoma. It's about turning our collective strength into a force for good, shining light on the path towards a brighter, cancer-free future for all. https://lnkd.in/eERNesmj

In a world where challenges loom large, the power of collective resilience shines brighter than ever. The recent Dolphins Challenge Cancer event is a prime example of this strength, rallying 6,702 individuals to raise an impressive $12 million. This huge effort beat last year's amount and reached the target of $75 million for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center earlier than expected! It's incredible to witness such a phenomenal success. It is a testament to the unstoppable spirit of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium leadership and each participant who turned adversity into victory together. Their collective resilience has powered a movement that's met one of the most ambitious donation goals in sports history, showing the world what's possible when we unite for a common cause. "One team. One fight." The resilience, unity, and strength displayed are truly inspiring. Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., put it well when he said, "Thanks to the unwavering support from the South Florida community and our amazing partnership with the Miami Dolphins, we've been able to achieve so much at Sylvester, pushing the boundaries of cancer research." When you focus your efforts on a goal, you're bound to succeed. Well done, Miami Dolphins! This event has made a real impact in the fight to save lives. #Community #Resilience #Teamwork #MiamiDolphins #CancerResearch

🏃♂️Running with Purpose: Supporting World Child Cancer in My First Marathon 🌍 Imagine a world where a child's chance of surviving cancer is determined by their geographical location. In the UK, over 80% of children triumph over this devastating disease, but in developing countries, that number plummets to a mere 10%. It doesn't have to be this way. On March 3, 2024, I'm diving headfirst into my first RunThrough event - The High Performance London Half marathon. I’m not a seasoned runner, but I believe in challenges that demand everything you've got. So, here I am, taking on the asphalt with a purpose - to support World Child Cancer. Reading through their website, I came across their mission to transform the lives of children battling cancer in developing countries, and that struck a chord with me. Through enhanced diagnosis, advanced treatment options, and unwavering support, World Child Cancer is transforming the landscape of paediatric oncology in countries that desperately need it. They believe that every child deserves a fighting chance against cancer, regardless of where they were born. Throw in your support by donating at: https://lnkd.in/ervnqend Every little bit counts and gets us closer to a world where every child gets a shot at a healthy future. This isn't just about crossing the finish line, it's about making every step count. If you find this cause resonating with you, feel free to repost. Together, let's spread awareness and support. Thanks for being part of this exciting journey! 🙌

🎗️🏃♂️ Excited to take on the challenge! 🏃♀️🎗️ The past year has been confronting. As a team we've lost 2 of our much loved clients to cancer, supported fundraisers to help the grandson of one of our favourite casuals as well as the son of a colleague diagnosed with cancer, and I lost my dad after a short battle with the disease. My team and I are stepping up to the plate and joining Cancer Council's The March Charge. This month-long fitness challenge is not just about breaking a sweat; it's about breaking barriers in cancer research, prevention, and support. In Australia alone, an estimated 162,000 people will receive the life-altering diagnosis of cancer this year. That's why I'm committed to making a difference by getting active and fundraising for those impacted by this relentless disease. Please, I urge you to join me in this critical mission by sponsoring our journey today. Every kilometer we cover and every dollar raised will directly contribute to Cancer Council’s vital cancer research, prevention initiatives, and support services, including their invaluable Information and Support line (13 11 20). Together, let's stand up to cancer and show it where it belongs – in the past. Let's make every KM count and tell cancer where to go! 🌟 #TheMarchCharge #CancerResearch #FightAgainstCancer #Fundraising #MakingADifference 🌟 https://lnkd.in/gffz4aUJ

It's time for another little personal challenge..... 4x4x48 "the David Goggins Challenge" The David Goggins Challenge, known as 4x4x48, is a gruelling test of mental and physical endurance where participants run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. I'll be doing it from 8-10 March! Much like the challenges faced by families dealing with childhood cancer, this challenge pushes boundaries, demanding resilience, and perseverance. Just as families supporting a child with cancer endure sleepless nights, emotional roller coasters, and constant vigilance, I will have to push through exhaustion, doubt, and pain. Both journeys require unwavering determination, support from loved ones, and a relentless pursuit of the goal despite the obstacles. By taking on this challenge in aid of CHOC, I am not only testing my own limits but also embodying the spirit of resilience and solidarity crucial in supporting children and families facing the challenges of childhood cancer. All you need to do to support me and the families I’m doing this for, is to donate to CHOC using the QR code. I challenge you to donate R100, or why not go with R10 per km for R770? Or contact me if your company wants to get involved.
