Congratulations to a Kids First Award Winner for September: Shannon Brown, Lead Patient Care Technician at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Shannon’s nomination reads: “On 7A, we have a long-term patient on the unit currently, who is typically very quiet. One afternoon, I had the pleasure of seeing Shannon take the time to wash his hair, clean up his room, and find some clothes from our donations to make him feel more like himself. That day he said to me and another nurse, ‘This is much better, I like myself today!’ Prom was the next day; of course, we were all excited and asked him if he would attend. Shannon promised him that she would help him get ready and be his plus one. He lit up, and he had an amazing time that day with Shannon, bringing out a side of him that we had yet to see. I know that these two days made such an impact on him, boosting his confidence and mood!” #KIDSFirstAward
