This. Teaching “Family & Friends CPR for the layman, is something I enjoy doing for this reason alone. The more who know how to recognize the symptoms and act fast, the better. There is no certification at the end, though it is super informational and the cost is minimum in comparison to the traditional heartsaver course. The resources are all AHA so the gold standard is there! I beg of anyone to push for these, you can work them into more than the average individual may realize; They make for effective team dynamics exercises for work. Mom/parent group meet ups? Book a local instructor. You could find an amazingly engaging instructor (cough cough wink) and host one at your next family reunion. Practical baby shower addition for the friends and family. I have taught this course for all of the above and more. Family & friends is a cost effective AHA curriculum course and it teaches the basics of hands only CPR. Almost ANYONE can save a life. But most importantly, #educationsaveslives

⚠️ Advances in #technology can make us take things for granted. ⚠️ ⛔️ I recently posted another instance that led to the death of a new mother. Another case of medication error from an automated dispensing cabinet (#ADC) was once more flagged. An #ER nurse pulled three 20g/100mL bags to match the order of 60g IV #Mannitol. Unfortunately, the labelling was not crossed checked, and she ended up pulling three infusion 100g/500mL bags instead. ⛔️ ‼️DO NOT CUT CORNERS! #Healthcare administrative bloat and inefficiency are rampant. While I have respect for many aspects of the VA healthcare system, I had not considered administrative efficiency to be one of them. This piece has me questioning my likely false assumptions and creates a different perspective. It represents a system that has the patient (a veteran) at the center of a team-based primary care network with a more holistic lens. VA hospitals outperform non-VA hospitals on 10 core patient satisfaction metrics in a recent Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Star Ratings. In the private sector health care system, we often only addresses the patient’s chief complaint, focusing on the current illness or acute issue. Ensuring a patient’s well-being requires the integration of the physical, psychological, social, and economic aspects of health and a thorough understanding of how these factors impact treatment compliance which the VA does much better than the rest of US healthcare. For you pediatricians, internists, and family medicine docs/clinics out there-- Can we learn from the VA? #UsingWhatWeHaveBetter

How to "Right" Prescriptions: Eighty to ninety percent of a patient's modifiable health factors (e.g., diabetes and stroke) are due to health-related behaviors, socioeconomic factors, and physical environment factors. Is that what we're teaching, learning, funding, or addressing? If not, why not? Well, some of us have been studying, teaching, and, yes, preaching this fact. The Levitt Center has been doing it for the last 15 years. We are joining them and are asking you to do the same. It's about time we start recognizing and treating the things that harm us all, not just those diagnosed in the office, hospital, or clinic. It's about time we write the "right" prescriptions. Give a little, gain a lot.

THIS WEEK is our 2nd Anniversary.. and we're #movingforward to deepen our work to empower residents, staff and communities. We will continue to be: 🌟 Focusing on the people in nursing homes. We have four projects underway being pilot tested in order for best practices to be promote nationally. These projects specifically empower residents to have control over their personal and community life, and #CNAs to grow in their career and nursing home roles. 👉 We'll be releasing a microsite later this week with "how to" guides. 🌟 Strengthening our voice for consensus of solutions. We're continuing to bring together diverse voices to identify solutions (big and small) we can all agree on. 👉 This week we'll have three consensus-backed federal policy recommendations to move forward with necessary shifts. 🌟 Seeking partners as we can't do it alone. 👉 We need help funding and scaling other promising projects to: incentivize household models, ensure surveyors have training in person-centered care, and make person-centered care planning a part of nursing home electronic health records.
