Did you know that while 70% of Hong Kong SMEs are keen on sustainability, only 28% have taken actions due to funding and technical challenges? With 91% of consumers favoring sustainable businesses, it's crucial for SMEs, making up 98% of all businesses in the city, to adopt low-carbon practices. To lead this change, #DBSHK has teamed up with Link REIT and CLP Power for the first time to launch the “Low Carbon Rewards Programme”, benefiting both SMEs and consumers. This initiative combines the expertise of the three parties in banking, asset, and energy management to support SMEs on their low-carbon journey while encouraging consumers to choose sustainable options. This is just the beginning. At DBS Bank, we are committed to making this initiative a cornerstone of a broader movement driving Hong Kong towards sustainability. We will continue to expand our collaborations with more large enterprises to build ESG-ready businesses, empowering the new generation of consumers to live more sustainably, and co-creating a greener future for all. 🌍 During #HKGreenWeek and #ClimateBusinessForum24, the Alliance of Green Commercial Banks (the Alliance) hosted a roundtable discussion focused on “Accelerating the Green Banking Transformation of Commercial Banks” and the challenges and opportunities in their journey. We had the pleasure of having Sean Kidney, CEO of the Climate Bonds Initiative, forge insightful discussions with participants from leading financial institutions from Thailand, the Philippines, India, and Sri Lanka. The discussions focused on: 💡Embracing and revising sustainable financing policies 💡Implementing a comprehensive strategy to evaluate and address climate-related risks Thank you to our distinguished participants from BDO bank, ttb bank, ICBC (Asia), Bank of Ayudhya (Krungsri Bank), ICMA - International Capital Market Association, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, Federal Bank, and Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF). Notably, BDO Bank, TTB, and Krungsri Bank participated in a three-month training with IFC under the Alliance pilot program. This roundtable served as a powerful reminder that the journey towards a sustainable future is a collaborative effort in which commercial banks play a pivotal role and that requires an ecosystemic approach, combining knowledge and capacity building, consulting services, financing and a regulatory enable environment. With support from Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the Alliance is a global initiative convened by IFC - International Finance Corporation to accelerate the green transformation of financial institutions to collectively finance the infrastructure and business solutions needed to address climate change.
