What is a Nephrostomy Tube? What exactly am I donating towards when I go to www.thepenelopeproject.net ? • A nephrostomy tube is a tube placed in your kidney that goes through a hole in your back to act as an external ureter. This tube allows fluid to exit your kidney, as it is supposed to. These are placed in individuals who have some sort of obstruction of the ureter, preventing fluid from passing to the bladder, and backlogging in the kidney • During my last 18 weeks of pregnancy, I had 10 of these bad boys placed • Your donation allows me to make what is basically a “slip cover” that allows you to attach this bag around your waist, cover up the fluid that is being drained into the bag, have easy access to draining the bag, all while never having to use a free hand to carry it around. • Why wouldn’t you just use the Velcro strap that comes with it? Well, it isn’t very sturdy, so once the bag started to fill, it would get heavy and droop, pulling on the tube that is attached to my body. Second, because I wasn’t a fan of showing my urine to the world. With my condition, anytime I exerted myself (by walking to the fridge), it would be tinged red, and at times, even had phlegm in it (gross - I know - but this is the reality of life with this thing). • Penelope bags allow these individuals to have easy access to draining, to be hands free, most importantly, covered. The mental toll of having one of these tubes is just as trying as the physical. Your donation is supporting women - physically, and mentally 💜 THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT 🥰 Www.thepenelopeproject.net

One of our Senior Associates, Amy Milner, has worked with our charity partner Cerebra (Charity) to publish an insightful article into intrauterine growth restriction and neurological injury. Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), also known as fetal growth restriction (FGR), occurs when a baby does not grow properly during pregnancy due to placental insufficiency. This can lead to chronic fetal hypoxia and long-term disabilities. Find out more about this condition and the support available 👇 https://lnkd.in/en2pEcUg #ChangingLives #IUGR #NeurologialInjury

Cleft lip and palate are common birth differences that occur during early pregnancy. These conditions result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. While the exact cause is not always clear, certain risk factors can increase the likelihood. Through research, education, and awareness, we can work towards better understanding cleft lip and palate, ensuring every child has the opportunity for a healthy start. Understanding Cleft Conditions A cleft condition occurs when there's a split in a baby's lip or the roof of their mouth that doesn't close properly before birth. This usually happens between the 6th and 11th week of pregnancy. A cleft lip is visible and easy to recognize, while a cleft palate, which is a gap in the roof of the mouth, is only noticeable when the baby's mouth is wide open, such as when crying. Your donation makes new smiles possible. Here at Tommy’s, we know the impact premature birth can have on families whose babies are born too soon. But we also know not everyone is aware of the unique journey premature birth brings. 1 in 13 births across the UK are premature. Some of these early births will have been planned for, but 3 out of 4 are completely unexpected. From our research, we know there are a number of reasons why someone might be more at risk of premature birth than others, such as infection or a short cervix, but there's so much that needs to be done to prevent it from happening. That's why, as the leading charity funding pregnancy research in the UK, we’re opening the first ever Tommy’s National Centre for Preterm Birth Research. Our new Centre will bring together leading researchers to understand the causes of premature birth, and discover new treatments to prevent it. Together, we will give parents the answers they’ve been looking for, and work towards making sure everyone has access to the right care they need. Read more: https://bit.ly/3FZg2Vo

SMOKING & ALCOHOL INFORMATION Pregnancy is a great opportunity for women to live healthier. Smoking and drinking can cause problems for you and your unborn baby, but you can choose to quit now and go on to have a healthy pregnancy. Smoking during pregnancy is harmful to you and your baby. Quitting smoking at any stage of your pregnancy has health benefits for you and your baby. Even after just one day of not smoking, your baby will get more oxygen. Quitting now also lowers your chances of having a baby with low birth weight. An alcohol-free pregnancy is the best choice for your baby. It is never too late to stop drinking in your pregnancy. Brain growth takes place throughout pregnancy and the sooner you stop drinking the safer it will be for you and your baby. ➡️➡️Watch this educational video https://lnkd.in/g8_uBf7Y Stay informed of the latest we are doing, to include our ➡️24/7 Hotline. ➡️➡️CLICK BELOW To Download Our Donation/Mobile App Link https://lnkd.in/ggke7e-6 We are a Christian based organization; however, we strive to help anyone in need regardless of Religion or other. It's #WorldPreeclampsiaDay. Pre-eclampsia is a condition that can affect pregnant women or birthing people during, or soon after, pregnancy. It's a combination of high blood pressure and often protein in your wee, or problems with the kidneys or liver. Currently, pre-eclampsia can only be cured by delivering the baby and the placenta. And, there's no guaranteed way to prevent it. Here at Tommy's, we're working to change this. That's why our researchers are finding ways to predict, prevent and treat pre-eclampsia. Last year, our researchers found giving progesterone in early pregnancy could reduce the risk of developing pre-eclampsia. The review showed women who were prescribed a vaginal progesterone treatment in the first trimester of pregnancy were 39% less likely to the condition: https://bit.ly/3MAaZhV In early 2024, our researchers also found they could identify someone's risk of developing pre-eclampsia using a single blood test, as opposed to more than one. This makes the test more accessible to women and birthing people around the world: https://bit.ly/3yvA7lA And, Tommy's researchers are now looking into whether using a specific drug could help relax blood vessels and treat pre-eclampsia: https://bit.ly/4aq9AU4 As a charity, our research is entirely funded by generous donations. It's thanks to you we're able to fund projects like this, to help make pregnancy and birth safe - for everyone.

PREGNANCY WEIGHT GAIN INFORMATION Gaining weight is a normal part of a healthy pregnancy. A healthy pregnancy will add about 20 to 30 pounds by the third trimester. In an average pregnancy, most of this weight is due to the pregnancy itself, rather than fat. Many women get back to their pre-pregnancy weight within 6 months after giving birth. The best way to lose the weight is with a healthy diet and moderate exercise. Choosing to breastfeed may also help you lose some of your pregnancy weight. ✔Select the link for informational videos: https://lnkd.in/gspEGRTV Stay informed of the latest we are doing, to include our ➡️24/7 Hotline. ✔✔CLICK BELOW To Download Our Donation/Mobile App Link https://lnkd.in/ggke7e-6 We are a Christian based organization; however, we strive to help anyone in need regardless of Religion or other.
