No insights, overview, round-up, just a big shout out to an incredible team that brought Startup Discovery School Climate Fest to life at Impact Hub London in London. So much discussion concerning climate (tech), often feels abstract. We talk of the problem without reference to those currently facing the impact of climate change...right..now. Tech demo days are great, but we needed something more. Something that brings people together who view the challenge from different angles—entrepreneurs, investors, activists, curious folk, and anyone else interested. Climate Fest was the first attempt at convening this diverse group of people and long may it continue. A Shout Out 📣 A big shout out to Farrah Rainfly, who highlighted the great work Lifeafterhummus Community Benefit Society has done mobilising resources to retrofit community housing in Somerstown, London. Thanks to Kieron Boyle CEO of the Impact Investing Institute, who gave insights on *how* money can work better in supporting what is called 'the only transition' to net zero. Reuben Christian for leading us in 'Dream Rehab' session alongside our own Taz Latif. Another thanks goes to Radhika Srinivasan, who led us in a conversation around driving equitable transitions to net zero. And finally Margarita Skarkou, Nikki Gaddo FRSA and Ann Stevenson who joined me as we discussed convenience, consumerism and the circular economy. Onwards ⏩ #climatechange #climatetech #justtransition #team

My Top Takeaways from Glasgow Tech Week But First - I don’t run a tech startup so what was I doing at Tech Week? 1. I work across industries – it’s powerful to take success from one industry – be it tech, travel or textiles – and see how it can inspire transformation in another. 2. Tech (alongside human ingenuity and passion) is how we’ll solve the big social, environmental and economic challenges of our time, at scale, so best embrace it. 3. It’s where all the (lovely) cool kids work in Glasgow, and after all my travels I was long overdue some quality hugs. So after #glasgowtechfest, Startup Grind Scotland and TecTonic Night Summit, what did I learn? Loads, here’s 5 for now…. 1. Success isn’t about not failing: don’t be afraid to fail – you will – the fear and excitement are two sides of the same coin – embrace the excitement of experimentation and regret what you do, not what you don’t do. You can always pivot. 2. Create your own reality: when you are driven by passion and a vision for a better future, others will connect with you on that, and business becomes easy. You’ll still hit dips and need refuelling along the way so know what energises you and get regular sparks that keep you going (travel, summits, collabs). 3. Culture eats strategy for breakfast – the secret to successful scaling is about maintaining your company culture as your team expands. Getting the people side right is the hardest part of business, so put some attention on it and get support! 4. On a larger scale - our entrepreneurial ecosystem in Glasgow needs to go beyond inclusion, and aim for a regenerative ecosystem where people genuinely know and feel they belong – that’s how we’ll get the diversity of ideas, knowledge and experience to solve the trickiest challenges. 5. The power of role models – you’ve got to see it to believe you can be it – we owe our success to those who went before us; let’s celebrate them, and pay it forward – and understand that business is give and take – when we contribute to something bigger than ourselves we’re all winners. What do you take from this? If you’d like to talk it through, get in touch, let’s scale your solution, sustainably! AND IMPORTANTLY – huge thanks and kudos to Glasgow City Innovation District and everyone who put in the hard work to pull off and share their stories for our growth and learning (as well as great hugs) Foras Startup Grind Gemma Carpenter Alisdair Gunn Nick Murray Caro, Dec McLaughlin Emma L. 🌍 Bridging Climate Tech’s ‘Valley of Death’ Through Corporate Collaboration 🌱 90% of the technologies we need to hit climate goals already exist – but scaling them is a significant challenge. Climate tech doesn’t have an innovation problem; it has a collaboration problem. Many startups face what is called the "Valley of Death" — the stage where viable technologies stall before they can scale. Without support from larger corporations, these solutions often fail to get off the ground. Corporations have the resources and global reach to de-risk and scale climate tech, but many are hesitant to take on execution risk without clear pathways to success. Strategic partnerships across value chains can provide the boost startups need, helping them secure funding, drive deployment, and achieve the scale necessary for real impact. By working together, we can accelerate the deployment of these solutions and help corporations meet their climate targets while creating new growth opportunities. 🔑 The key to bridging this gap? Purposeful collaboration and long-term partnerships. Let’s work together to build a sustainable future! 🌎 #ClimateTech #Innovation #Sustainability #CorporateVentures #NetZero https://lnkd.in/g7FRghDt

We are deep into the University of Technology Sydney Greenhouse #Scaling Climate Tech project! The post below demonstrates why the research project is so important to helping Aussie climate tech startups to commercialise and scale. Thank YOU to the Founders and experts who have already raised their hand to participate and support this project via a short interview with UTS researchers. If you are an experienced climate tech founder, please reach out to Greenhouse (you can message me directly or email hello@greenhouse.tech) and ensure your experience benefits the next generation of founders in their scaling journey!
Experienced Climate Tech founders: We need your help 📣 🌱 Climate tech startups can struggle to transition from the startup to scale up stage – this is not unusual for hard-tech or deep-tech companies. A recent report from Endeavor Insight and HSBC examines the challenges that climate tech founders face as they scale their companies. 🔎 So what did they find? Networking, mentoring and creating hubs where Climate tech companies can come to collaborate is critically important. 🏠 The combination of experienced firms and startups with a robust knowledge exchange and mentorship is crucial to accelerating and expanding the development of Climate tech in Australia. 🏡 This is one of the many reasons we have built the Greenhouse Climate Tech Hub – seeking to connect, collaborate, and co-innovate on climate solutions with the broadest possible ecosystem of actors. 🤝 Mentorship within the Climate tech sector can be scarce so having these connections, especially in the regions, will greatly benefit upcoming Climate tech companies. Kudos to organisations like EnergyLab, The Melt, SparkLabs Cultiv8, Startmate, and Climate Salad for leading the charge on climate mentorship in Australia. With research like this in mind, Greenhouse is collaborating with University of Technology Sydney, climate tech startups, and investors to understand the challenges that climate tech companies face in an Australian context, and to develop recommendations to support founders in the process of scaling. To figure out the Australian context, we are currently interviewing experienced founders and collating insights of relevance to our ecosystem. If you are an experienced climate tech founder, please reach out to Greenhouse (you can message us or email hello@greenhouse.tech) and ensure your experience benefits the next generation of founders in their scaling journey!
