MediWound's NexoBrid has demonstrated impressive safety and efficacy results in the NEXT (NexoBrid Expanded Access Treatment) protocol, further validating its potential as a ground-breaking treatment for severe thermal burns. Here are the key highlights: NexoBrid achieved complete debridement in 94.9% of adults and 100% of children treated, consistent with previous Phase 3 study results. This high success rate in eschar removal was accomplished with minimal need for additional surgical intervention - only 4.2% of adults required surgical excision after NexoBrid treatment, and none in the pediatric group. The treatment proved rapid and effective, with complete eschar removal occurring in less than one day for both adults and children. On average, only 3.6% of the wound area required surgical excision in adults, while no excision was needed for children. Regarding healing and hospitalization, the median time to wound closure was 22 days for adults and 28 days for children, with both groups having a median hospital stay of 10 days. These results from the NEXT protocol, conducted across 29 U.S. burn centers with 239 patients, reinforce NexoBrid's potential to revolutionize burn care by reducing the need for surgical interventions and improving patient outcomes. The data aligns with previous clinical trials, strengthening the case for NexoBrid's inclusion in standard burn care protocols. https://lnkd.in/g63Krq2G Stay informed and ahead of the curve by following Practical Patient Care on LinkedIn for the latest industry news and insights! #PracticalPatientCare #Woundcare #BurnCare #MedicalInnovation #ClinicalResearch #RegenerativeMedicine

Did you know that February 12th through the 19th is Seizure Action Plan Awareness Week? This awareness week is designed to highlight the importance of people with epilepsy, their caregivers, and healthcare providers to develop detailed plans for when a seizure occurs. In a recent study, only 30% of adult patients and 45% of pediatric patients responded that they have a seizure action plan. The plan can offer more control to patients and caregivers by providing consistent, patient-specific guidance regarding seizure management. It also educates and empowers people to know what to do in the event of a seizure, such as by defining the appropriateness of watchful waiting, when to intervene with at-home rescue medications, when to call 911 or go to the hospital, and much more. Daily Critical Care Pearls #199: What is the supporting evidence for administering Vimpat (lacosamide) by IV push in adults and pediatric patients? ✅️ Prescribing information for Vimpat (lacosamide) allows for rapid infusions lasting 15 minutes in adults and 30 minutes in children, but does not discuss parameters around intravenous (IV) pushes. ✅️ In the adult population, lacosamide appears to be both safe and tolerable as an IV push at dosages up to 400 mg (see Tables 1-7). ✅️ There is a lack of data to support the use of IV push lacosamide in the pediatric patient population. #criticalcare #clinicalpharmacy #medicine #pearls
