It’s FURNITURE WEEK: as part of Keep Britain Tidy's #BUYNOTHINGNEWMONTH January campaign, The House of Upcycling is helping to get the message across over the next seven days by promoting furniture upcycling. Four of our members will be showcasing their skills later this week in a set of inspiring videos - watch out for Sue Gifford (Sue Gifford Design), Lisa White (A Twist of Somerset), Zara Bonser (My Sanctuary No.8) and Liz Clarkson (Liz Clarkson Interior Transformations) appearing on your screens, you’re going to love the transformations, the results are striking. Upcycling is not just fun and fashionable, it’s creative, environmentally positive, saves money, saves waste and introduces a new individuality to the home; it can also become a career, more on that soon. Whilst not everyone has the skills of our member artisans, there are numerous upcycling classes available nationwide hosted by HOU members, teaching upcycling the professional way. Drop me a DM if you’d like to know more of what’s happening in your area. And talking of new, we’re getting into a little AI these days to help promote the craft … we're embracing new technology and the buy nothing new for a month concept, game on. #BuyNothingNewMonth #upcycling #upcycled #circulardesign #keeplearning #ecofriendlyliving

Nothing goes to waste. We have designed the furniture pieces for our upholstery workshop not only to deliver a compelling proposition for our customers but also to maximise material efficiency. Here is one example from our waste reduction pracitces for minimising waste. Our furniture designs were intentionally designed to utilise the full piece of fabric. Any small offcuts are used to make our handcrafted buttons Any other fabric scraps that are cut off during the making process are split from normal waste and recycled. This question is often up for debate at the Rekindle Design Co. office, so we wanted to extend our circle and ask the LinkedIn community for their two cents 🙂 We are always working towards making our products, packaging and business practices more planet friendly. Our materials are all FSC certified, as is our packaging (which is also 100% recycled and recyclable). As a furniture manufacturer that sells direct to consumer, we are doing what we can to share with our community the importance of shopping for furniture mindfully 🌿 However (and we may be wrong) we get the impression sustainability is still fairly unimportant when it comes to the consumer decision-making process. What has been your experience? 🏝 #ecofriendly and Sustainability: At the heart of modern European sensibilities lies a strong inclination towards sustainable living. This consciousness is not a mere passing trend but a foundational shift in consumer behavior. Plastic furniture made from recycled materials or those that are recyclable themselves stand out in the market. Brands that prioritize sustainability not only align with European environmental regulations but also with the eco-conscious mindset of the average European consumer. As a result, furniture pieces that reduce the carbon footprint while maintaining style and functionality are in high demand. #outdoorfurniture #outdoorliving #patiofurniture #chair #plasticchair #gardenfurniture #makafurniture

💡 as I’ve been renovating my flat over the last three months there is a theme that runs through everything I do. ➡ whenever I can, I go second-hand, organic or recycled. ❓ why - because my parents taught me so. not because it’s cheaper (because that's not always the case!) but because it’s resourceful and fosters sustainability in my own home. ⚒ examples 👯 I was incredibly lucky and grateful for generous friends who lent me their power tools instead of having to buy new ones (thanks Julie Pon and Joe Richman). not every household needs to have a chop saw, a sander, an SDS drill, a jigsaw, a circular saw, another drill, a multitool and a tile cutter. 📚 what I didn’t get from them, I got at the Library of Things - an AMAZING concept, where one can rent a power tool for a couple of days at reasonable prices and then bring it back, so the wider community can benefit from it. ⌛ now that the core renovations are coming to an end, I am looking to furnish my flat with second-hand furniture. 🙆♀️ again, not because it’s cheaper but because there is SO MUCH stuff on sale via e.g. Facebook Marketplace, Vinterior, Gumtree.com, Nextdoor, local second-hand furniture stores, and flea markets, it’d be a waste to not give solid furniture a second and third life. 💭 going second hand requires often a bit more time, effort and flexibility to arrange collections, good friends like Anna-Sophia Press who help with Zipcar vans and expectation management (it's fine if that cute dresser needs a polish and some love to shine again). 🌳 that's my little contribution to a more sustainable way of living. 🤔 (and yes, I will fly on holidays this year, so I am just as twisted as my dad who loves his solar panels while driving classic cars up and down the alps - judge us) 🖤 throwback to when my twisted dad was in london to support his favourite child's renovation project because it's always better to post a selfie for engagement. #sustainability #circulareconomy #secondhand #worklifebalance #renovations #sustainable

Great to see new entrants thinking about the future of the industry and starting with a sustainability perspective.
"We plan to be activists in this field and rally for sustainable change, by coming together with other players who recognise the need for a more sustainable future in furniture.” New #sofa brand Keep is on a mission "to bring about change to the furniture industry and put an end to fast furniture", says co-founders James Rubin-Smith and Robert Hudson, formerly of M&S and Made, who are striving to combine "thoughtful, timeless designs with conscious materials to create sofas that are built to last longer". https://lnkd.in/gYVkeBUq #sustainable #furniture #upholstery Aquaclean Group #sustainability #green #ecofriendly
