GlobalGiving is giving away $1.2 million to nonprofits around the world today! Any little bit can help LGBTQ families. Will you help? Mama Dragons uses platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to provide information and support for parents. LGBTQ-affirming parenting is the most significant way to reduce LGBTQ youth suicide. Social media platforms offer a powerful means to impact LGBTQ education for parents. Social media provides a space for diverse voices within the LGBTQ community and allies to share personal stories, resources, and educational content. Mama Dragons is participating in GlobalGiving this year with the goal of expanding the reach of our peer-led support groups to an additional 1,000 caregivers in need of LGBTQ education, directly impacting another 2,000 LGBTQ kids. This funding will provide support for all 7 of our services to help new families for one year. mamadragons.org https://lnkd.in/eD7m8a-Z

Put your money where your pride is 🏳️🌈 Resources to help in our recent blog post!
Seattle’s first Pride took place 50 years ago in June 1974. More than 200 LGBTQ+ people gathered publicly for the first time - no longer willing to hide or be denied the right to exist. The echoing cry was “NOW” - which has become the commemorative theme of Seattle Pride 50. At Humanize Wealth, we believe that we are at the crossroads of a massive opportunity for using wealth, and its associated power, to drive positive social outcomes. In the spirit of Seattle Pride 50, we encourage you to get involved and support LGBTQ+ rights, initiatives and businesses this month – and all year round. Our blog features 5 KEY RESOURCES: 1. GSBA's 2024 Pride Guide 2. Intentionalist's Pride-Month-Marketplace Guide 3. The Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equity Index 4. Nonprofits and LGBTQ+ services to support 5. 📢 Did you know LGBTQ+ young people make up less than 10% of the U.S. population but account for 30 to 40% of all youth experiencing homelessness? In her article, "The Shelter System Isn’t Equipped for LGBTQ+ Youth," Morgan Philbin highlights the urgent need for better resources and support for LGBTQ+ folx and how we here at Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco, along with The Ali Forney Center and Covenant House New York in New York City, are addressing this critical issue. 📰 Explore the challenges that queer youth face and learn what solutions you can support: https://lnkd.in/gTfzGhyq #LGBTQYouth #SupportQueerYouth #EndYouthHomelessness

Protecting LGBTQ+ youth involves creating safe, supportive environments where they can express their identities freely. This includes implementing anti-bullying policies, providing access to mental health resources, and fostering inclusive communities both in schools and online. It's crucial to educate and empower allies to stand up against discrimination and promote acceptance. Parents disowning their LGBTQ+ youth can have devastating effects, leading to increased risks of homelessness, mental health issues, and suicidal ideation. Acceptance and support from family are crucial for the well-being and development of LGBTQ+ individuals. It's essential for parents to seek understanding and offer unconditional love to their children, embracing them for who they are. Protecting LGBTQ+ children with the same tenacity as all children isn't just about equality—it's about recognizing that their safety, dignity, and well-being are non-negotiable human rights.

We know that every child deserves safety, stability and love. 🌈We also know that LGBTQ+ youth enter the child welfare system for the same reasons that other youth enter care: their biological families are unable to provide a safe, stable, and nurturing home for them, both for reasons unrelated to the youth’s self-expression and sometimes for reasons tied to rejection of a child’s identity. The good news is that with foster and adoptive parents who acknowledge, respect and support our LGBTQ+ youth in ways that nurture their health, safety and growth, these young people can develop the strength and self-confidence to become successful adults. But to do that, Family Support Services needs affirming foster and adoptive parents – like you! 💙 Learn more about fostering with FSS at https://lnkd.in/ePeeDJfh. Experienced leader with a commitment to expanding opportunities; champion for economic and social equity.
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. How are you celebrating our AAPI neighbors, family members, colleagues and community members this month (and all year)? Three recommendations: 1. Check out the work of the The Asian Community Fund at the Boston Foundation and follow my colleague, Danielle Kim. 2. Read the current issue of Boston Spirit Magazine and specifically the article on community funds in support of the LGBTQ+ community, including a new fund launched in the Merrimack Value thanks to Julie Chen & Susu Wong. 3. Finally, read this piece that came out last year that centers LGBTQ+ mental health and the AAPI experience.
