Rather than making the 350th comment on Patrimonia, I’ve decided to explain in English why it’s relevant for foreign asset management companies. Should you attend Patrimonia or not? My answer is no, but… It’s not worth it if: 1. Your sales teams primarily speak English. 2. They are based 1000 km away from France. 3. You don’t have a team of at least three people in France to handle the listings. 4. You haven’t planned a budget to maintain this team for at least three years, preferably five. 5. You don’t spend 50% of your time before and after Patrimonia on the road promoting your participation and following up with those who visited your booth. 6. Financial advisors mainly come to meet asset management companies they know and have seen during the year, rarely to discover more than one new partner, as we don’t have the time. One day at Patrimonia is extremely intense. However, for the same budget, you could: 1. Target one or two life insurance platforms and participate in their sales meetings (lunches, events, seminars). 2. Communicate through a media outlet dedicated to financial advisors, such as Patrimoine24 3. Sign a partnership with Alma Events to participate in top seminars with 40 financial advisors. 4. Attend lunches with other asset management companies. 5. And of course, sign a partnership with the leading third-party marketer for financial advisors: MyFunds Office. We offer you the best return on investment but we are distributing a limited number of expertises. Once you’ve done all that, you should participate in Patrimonia, which remains by far the best trade show in the industry.

Join me on July 31st (9am-10am EST / 2pm-3pm BST) when I speak to members of The Institute of Asset Management (AIM) on the topic of "Resilience and Asset Protection: How Insurance Plays a Role". The discussion will revolve around insurance risk and engineering practices to gain a better understanding of the role insurance plays in your organization’s asset protection. 1) How does your insurance policy work to help manage asset protection and when would it be activated? 2) How can the insurance market appetite change and its impact on your asset protection planning? 3) What additional coverages and resources can my insurance carrier or broker provide? 4) What are the limitation and misconceptions? We will also touch on future/emerging risks, how they may shape insurance programs into the future and where to concentrate your organizations risk management resources. Look forward to you joining!

Last week, our Co-Founder Larry Morse, shared insights with Romaine Bostick, CFA and Alix Steel on Bloomberg TV’s The Close! Larry explained how our partnership with New York Life Insurance Company started and also touched on consolidation in the asset management industry. “New York Life was an existing investor of ours, and back in 2021, they retained us to build a portfolio of next-generation private equity fund managers, those that we've identified as having the talent, the ability, the performance that suggest that they’re likely to build enduring franchises over time. In that process, we worked very closely with the team of professionals at New York Life. They got to know us, we got to know them. We developed deep respect for one another. We understood our capabilities, our compatibilities, our complementaries, so when they broached the notion of deepening the relationship…we decided we pursue it,” - Larry Morse. Our recent announcement about New York Life acquiring a minority ownership stake in Fairview is aligned with where the industry is going. “If you've been paying attention to what's going on in the asset management industry, broadly speaking, consolidation has been underway for some time, and it's driven primarily by large institutional investors.” Tune in for more highlights from the full interview: https://bloom.bg/4aDbtNf

The first two asset-backed securities (ABS), with a total issuance amount of more than CNY2bn ($277 m) and managed by insurance asset management companies, have made their debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. China Life Asset Management Company and Taikang Asset Management take the lead in this new operation. On 13 October 2023, five insurance asset management companies, China Life Asset Management, Taikang Asset Management, CPIC Asset Management, PICC Asset Management, and Ping An Asset Management, became the first batch of insurance asset managers approved by the Shanghai Stock Exchange and Shenzhen Stock Exchange to pilot ABS and REIT (real estate investment trust funds) businesses. Prior to this, the asset managers of China's onshore ABS were securities companies or their asset management subsidiaries, with insurance asset managers participating only in an investor role. A total of CNY1,848 billion ($ 260 billion) of ABS were launched in 2023, down 7% year-on-year. The scale of China's existing ABS at the end of 2023 amounted to CNY 4.35 trillion ($0.61 trillion), down 17% year-on-year. The participation of insurer-owned asset management companies in ABS business opens up financing channels and widens the investment scope for insurance funds.#China #ABS #insurancecompanies #assetmanagement
