It seems like this summer is filled with a lot of exciting projects and developments, from new construction builds and software rollouts to expanding core operations to serve a growing market. It's great to see this growth and optimism, especially after the uncertainty that has affected our businesses and lives in recent years. However, it's not just businesses that are seeing increased activity. Not-for-profit organizations are also facing more challenges with the same budget constraints and higher operating costs while still fulfilling the needs of those theybstrive to support. Organizations like the Cool Aid Society of Grande Prairie have dedicated teams working tirelessly to support their causes. For instance, the Cool Aid Youth Program underwent a significant facelift this year, thanks to the efforts of Barbara Feltham-Brentnall and her team. The infrastructure upgrade and the time invested by the staff and volunteers have resulted in engaging, fun, and educational summer camps for the kids. These programs not only enhance the lives of the children but also fulfill a crucial need in our community. With everyone being busy this summer, I urge you to consider supporting societal initiatives that help keep your community strong. Not-for-profits are facing rising costs, but support can come in many forms, such as sharing skills, providing art programs, donating day-to-day supplies, or offering career guidance. Even leftover supplies from construction projects can make a difference in these communities. Don't forget to lend a hand to organizations like these this summer. A little help can go a long way within your community, often in ways that have a lasting impact you wouldn't initially realise.

WE ARE NOW LIVE! Every donation is now being DOUBLED while match funds last. Joyce, a mother of two, used to worry everyday about how she would feed her children the healthy food they needed. She told us recently that thanks to Rose Vouchers she can buy them the fruit and veg they need to grow into healthy adults. "For people on a low income, Rose Vouchers mean you can still feed your kids. It’s a lifeline. I can make whole meals out of Rose Vouchers. I like that they give me enough for my family. Sometimes I have some food leftover to save for the next week. We’re so grateful.” Through the Rose Vouchers for Fruit and Veg project, we don’t just help families to eat, we help them eat well. The benefits are clear, and practical: 🍇 Families’ fruit and veg intake improves by an average of 3 portions a day. 🍋 55% of parents now eat at least 5 portions of fruit & veg a day, up from 15%. 🍎 64% of children now eat at least 5 portions of fruit & veg a day, up from 7%. In the last 12 months, we’ve supported 4,136 families, including over 6,204 children, to buy healthy fresh fruit and veg and avoid food poverty with over £900,000 in Rose Vouchers. That’s a 39% year-on-year increase which we’ve been able to provide thanks to your generosity. But the need is still growing. Despite falling inflation, prices remain stubbornly high, and more people in the UK are experiencing food poverty. Families constantly tell us they simply cannot afford enough fresh fruit and veg for their children to thrive. Our Champions for Children fundraiser is crucial. Most people’s understanding of addiction is wrong. Addiction is about poverty. It’s about trauma. It’s about children not being kept safe when they should have been. It’s about discrimination of already marginalised people. For many, it’s an adaptive response to the horrors of what life has served them. When people who want help for their alcohol and drug use come to First Step, we welcome them with love and care. And then wrap around them a team of GPs, nurses, psychologists, psycho-social workers, nurse practitioners, case workers, mental health nurses and lawyers. One team. For free. At one site. We are the only service of this kind in Australia, however receive NO state government funding for the delivery of our health service. Today is our annual fundraising day and three big-hearted donors are going to match every donation that comes in today.
