For a #rewilding project to be sustainable, in the truest sense of the word (i.e. long-lasting), it needs to deliver value beyond #biodiversity. Land is passed down from person to person, so embedding some kind of social, economic or cultural value in a project will make it more likely that the legacy continues into the future. I strongly believe that nature-only projects which don't put access, produce or culture at the heart of the mission, are destined to fail. And it's likely to be a slow and painful death, with much damage done to the legacy of the landowner. We *can* create benefits for both nature and people in the same place, and we *should*. It's not just good practice - it's also more profitable, which makes it inherently more sustainable. This podcast is my favourite piece of media that I've worked on so far - credit goes to both Tom Constable for editing the thing and Chloe Constable for walking round my land and putting me at ease. The resulting interview is a deep dive which feels very much like How to Rewild in podcast form. I listened back to the podcast with my 9 year old this weekend, and was surprised to find that he was deeply upset when we had to stop, mid-episode. This is a topic which is hugely important to the younger generation, as nature recovery directly affects their future. I tried approaching it with language which would be appropriate to a young teenager, so please do share with kids of that age, as I think it's a positive listen. Many thanks to Grange Project | Wilder Wales for inviting me to take part in this fantastic experience. I look forward to visiting them in the future. I'm currently working on Life to Land - a service which aims to give landowners the advice they need to deliver biodiversity on their property, alongside productivity. But it's very much a 'self-serve' system, with guides to lots of different types of land management, depending on your preference for nature recovery, regenerative agriculture or permaculture. I'm hoping to open the public beta early next year, and the waiting list is already bursting with landowners - I'm very thankful for their responses so far! Can't wait to listen, Chris D'Agorne! I think this is such a wise approach—embedding something of tangible value to people who don't have the context/empathy/education necessary to understand, protect, and/or cherish a "nature only" area or solution. As with so many other aspects of life, moderation is the key to long-term success.
