With CEO Succession planning, a big question from boards is, should we look at internal candidates to be the next CEO, or an external candidate? As Chip Bergh, the outgoing CEO of Levi Strauss & Co. explained in Boardspan's last webinar, the answer is that the right candidate can be both. As Bergh transitions his CEO role to Michelle Gass this week, business publications are talking about Levi's unique approach to succession planning, citing it as a possible model for the future. Jeff is coming right into the hot seat. If anyone can build a team that can figure our their long term solution - Jeff can. I don’t think is another candidate that could do a better job. But make no mistake - the Macy’s strategy must look very different. The 2 opportunities I see is revolutionizing their e-commerce business which is already in top 10 sites along with amazon, Walmart,, Etsy, E-bay. Target etc. Hire a little AI team to leverage that technology. And, second opportunity are rolling out the much smaller almost large boutique stores in key locations but assortments must be tailored to that customer base. The other thing is these smaller stores can elevate the brand image because they will be new - with Jeff’s luxury brand connections perhaps there could be some story telling around that. Guess what happened today that totally blew my mind? So, I was just going about my business at work when I turned around to help a customer, and guess who it was? Jessica from my White House | Black Market days! Talk about a blast from the past! It was such a pleasant surprise to see her, and as we caught up, it got me thinking about our time at WHBM. You know, it struck me that a lot of people know how much I love visuals, and Jessica played a huge role in igniting that passion in me. She was the one who really introduced me to the whole visual space thing. Thanks to her influence, I was able to make a smooth transition from working on visuals at WHBM to doing the same at Victoria’s Secret, all while excelling in sales. And let's not forget my stint as the Merchandise Team Leader at Aerie before landing the gig as Store Manager. Jessica was like the spark that set off this whole exciting journey of exploring how far I could take my merchandising skills and sales prowess. It's funny how these little chance encounters can make you reflect on how far you've come, right? It's moments like these that make me appreciate the journey and the people who have been a part of it.
