Listening to the convo on @theallinpod about the cancel culture around Jewish people. This is a shameful place to be where major corporations are evaluating someone’s religion over their competency. Pick winners, not losers. There are plenty of Fortune 500 companies with Jewish leaders and most of them are prospering at all time highs. Shame on this corporation for not allowing a Jew to lead due to fear of repercussions. What an incredibly woke and weak company. Don’t let the mob win, don’t let the protesters have a voice. Let the losers pick themselves.

I am a proud member of #WhiteDudesForHarris.” I attended the call last month with fellas including Jeff “the dude abides” Bridges, Mark “Luke Skywalker” Hamill and Adam Schiff. And I heard the mockery from those on the right. We were “betas”--non-alpha males. Or “cucks”--guys who are so weak our wives are unfaithful to us. The attacks stung me some. They hit below the belt–literally belittling our sexual potency. But I’m wary of hitting back with more name-calling. In particular, the “weird” label growing popular among Democrats makes me uncomfortable. The term is about “othering” people, and that’s long been a cruel tool of the right. Besides, “weird” refers to how out-of-the-ordinary something is. And there are a lot of Americans who’ve bought into the Make America Great Again version of masculinity. That is, the idea that men are supposed to be dominant, to be invincible, to avoid emotions other than anger and glee–a gladness that often comes from vanquishing or diminishing another. But whether or not it is weird, MAGA masculinity is wanting. It isn’t enough for a man to live a happy, healthy, full life. The narrative perspective war still feels grossly under-discussed. That this force of mental gymnastics, at times the deeply willful ignorance, to somehow justify these ongoing atrocities? In addition to the acts themselves, the astounding evil of finding some kind of world view spins that falsely frames it as "actually, it was a correct thing to do". I'm still hunting for a term or way to describe that particular extra layer of evil. Video below is about one such racist atrocity - White people setting ablaze buses full of Black children during American school desegregation. To manage to convince one set of humans to so thoroughly dehumanize another set of humans (small children!). Reminder that this happening, right now, before your very eyes in Israel and Palestine. Israeli social media showing people celebrating the relentless, indiscriminate slaughter of Palestinians. It's happening in the Congo. It's happening in so many facets of so many corners of the world. Not just the crimes against humanity themselves. But the justification to paint them as anything else. As, even, "good things" at times. There is such an unfathomable additional cruelty in denying the realities of atrocity.

Today, as we celebrate our nation's independence, we also seek to understand why the traditional definition of American patriotism has faced a steep decline among young adults over the last 20 years. The next generation increasingly sees themselves as global citizens, prioritizing human rights and environmental sustainability beyond national borders. They value cultural diversity and advocate for global cooperation over prioritizing the needs of one group of people.
