When traveling through a city, people will choose the mode that is reliable, convenient, and comfortable. Street performance is conventionally measured based on how many vehicles can travel through, and how fast they're traveling. But by measuring the number of people moved on a street, we can make a strong case for bike, pedestrian, and transit improvements.

An infographic that we have seen in different shapes, forms and colours. The problem isn't that we don't understand that public transits can move more people, it is that public transits should be made available to reach every nook and corner of a city or town so that people don't have to use their vehicles. For that daily travelled routes, first and last mile connectivity, safety and security of all roads along with their qualities has to be maintained. Also, they should be made available at night. Convenience and comfort of travel should also be made a priority. People do understand the need to use public transit, it's just that our public transit is not upto standards that can eradicate the use of personal vehicles to a large extent. A complete street design that ensures safe travel of non-motorised two wheelers along with making important places available at short distances will increase their uses. As long as provisions to improve the quality of public transit is not worked on, the scenario will remain the same for cities all around the world. #transport #publictransport #publictransit #cars #urbanplanning

Mass transit so poorly meets the needs of people that we go the to great expense of owning cars. Per passenger-mile, buses produce more CO2 than cars and costs taxpayers 5 times more per passenger-mile than cars. PRT networks cost 10x less than cars, 25x less than passenger-trains, and 50x less than buses.

Efficiency is key in the race against time. 🚶♂️🚴♀️🚍 When moving people efficiently, the best solutions are often the simplest. Walking, biking, and public transit are more efficient than driving individual cars—even those hailed as the future, like EVs, AVs, rideshares, or taxis. When we prioritize these modes, we’re not just saving time; we’re creating opportunities. Less time stuck in traffic means more investment in what truly matters. Let’s shift our focus (and our modes) and investments like Nashville's proposed Choose How You Move transportation improvement program towards these tried-and-true solutions. Happy #TDMWeek! One popular carbon reduction strategy employed by many communities across the United States involves introducing elements of "gamification" and competition to entice (and incentivize) people to try new travel modes. Here in Ohio, the Ohio Commuter Challenge runs from September 9 - 22 and awards prizes to participants who replace drive alone trips with alternative modes of transportation, including carpooling, vanpooling, transit, biking, e-scooter, or walking. Utilizing the Gohio Commute platform, participants can plan for and log their trips throughout the Challenge (and beyond) and see the financial and environmental impacts of their actions.
