Two Hands is proudly a member of the NFU (National Farmers' Union). It’s awesome to see this week’s NFU conference in Glasgow discussing “Strengthening Farmers position in the supply chain” with Scottish First Minster Humza Yousaf and MP John Lamont MP as two of the speakers.
Technology and Scotland the Brave are the key to farmers reclaiming their rightful place as the lifeblood of our society. In a world dominated by faceless supply chains, Two Hands stands united with farmers, restoring power and prosperity to those that sustain us.
The industrialised food production pendulum has swung too far. While it credibly feeds the planet's 8 billion people, farmers and fishers are now treated as mere commodities. They are price takers and not receiving the profit, recognition or respect for all their sweat.
In addition, the vast majority of UK producers lack the resources to address the titanic changes facing the food and drink sector— rapid technological change, net-zero, sustainability credentials, and the impact of Brexit. The livestock carbon impact narrative, often led by climate activists, contributes to an imbalanced debate.
This situation is creating a global demographic time bomb. The average age of UK farmers is 59, globally 60, growing almost a year every year, as the next generations are not attracted. As a result, regional towns and villages are in decline across every continent.
We need industrialised food production to continue feeding the 8 billion. However, it is imperative to explore alternatives that empower producers to reclaim their rightful place in our society.
Collaboration and the latest technologies are poised to deliver alternative solutions in 2024. Scotland, with its significant strength in collaboration between government, academia, industry bodies, and business, stands out globally.
Let's not forget Scotland's historical significance—the hub of the Enlightenment period, taking humanity out of the Dark Ages. Edinburgh Castle, sitting majestically on Castle Rock, is testament to the beauty of humankind’s spirit. With deep yet quiet confidence, patriotism, and respect, Scots have a history of punching above their weight globally.
Now, more than ever, the world needs Scotland to lead the way. While technology enabled industrialised food production, the latest technology advances can bring solutions to producers, their artisan produce and food supply chains.
Acting alone, no company or institution can lead us toward producers reclaiming their rightful place in society. However, Scotland's AI capability and the enormous potential of tech startups working collaboratively with government, academia, industry bodies, and business have great potential to transform food supply chains and regional communities.

Delighted to share our programme for our annual conference and AGM. For the first time, the focus is on the market and how it can support a profitable farming industry. An outstanding mix of speakers across the 2 days and our legendary gala dinner - not to be missed.
