Home of #FarmSafetyWeek & #MindYourHead A charity supporting the physical & mental wellbeing of UK farmers💛
About us
The Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) is an independent registered charity (Registered Charity No. 1159000) set up in 2014 to preserve and protect the physical and mental wellbeing of the next generation of farmers. The charity helps to raise awareness of, and address the attitudes and behaviours around, risk-taking and poor mental health in the agricultural sector throughout the UK. Agriculture continues to have the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK accounting for 1% of the UK’s working population but 16% of all workplace deaths. 21 farm workers and 6 members of the public (including a child) lost their lives on GB farms in the past year according to the 2022/2023 HSE Fatal Injuries in Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing GB report. The charity doesn’t just raise awareness of farm safety, it is continuing to drive a real cultural change in attitudes and behaviours to risk-taking and poor mental health in the next generation of farmers through: • High quality training, learning and skills development - The award-winning Introduction to Farm Safety training sessions have been delivered to over 23,000 young farmers at land-based colleges and universities across the UK and through the young farmers clubs network. • Working in partnership with key sector stakeholders, settings and groups to reduce risk taking and poor safety behaviours and provide support. • Running campaigns (Farm Safety Week / Mind Your Head) to raise awareness, reduce stigma and increase help seeking • Sector-leading research into attitudes and behaviours to understand the risk factors around farm safety and poor mental health; and • Using this evidence to influence policy, practice and change Through its ambitious education programme, resources, research and award-winning national campaigns, the charity is ensuring those making their journey into agriculture are equipped with the skills and confidence to live well and farm well.

Today is #WorldSepsisDay and did you know that every 2.8 seconds someone dies of #sepsis ? To help raise awareness of the dangers to farmers, we asked Simon Edward Clayton to tell his story for this year's Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) #FarmSafetyWeek and we brought in the superbly talented Sam Oatey to film it... The UK Sepsis Trust is working every day to raise awareness and provide vital support to those affected by this life-threatening condition with the help of supporters like NFU Mutual. Please do your bit and get sepsis savvy - it could help you save a life 💛

Hey folks - we are working with our friends at the No Falls Foundation on a first-of-its-kind UK falls from height research study. If you have experienced, witnessed or investigated a fall from height (work or domestic) then they want to hear from YOU... This information will help gain a deeper insight into the underlying causes and circumstances behind falls from height which, in farming alone, kills 4 workers every year according to HSE...
