Retired Navy SEAL Clint Emerson shares three vital tips on navigating an active shooter situation: 1. **Run** to increase your distance and improve survivability 2. **Hide** to stay out of the shooter’s sight 3. **Fight** (a last resort) by using anything at hand as an improvised weapon to defend yourself Always be aware of your surroundings, noting exits and potential shelters.

General Pershing, Maneuver, and Combined Arms Turn of the century American conflicts, such as the Indian Wars, Spanish/American War, Philippine Insurrection, and the Punitive Expedition into Mexico, were wars of maneuver. General Pershing’s experience in these conflicts led him to believe that maneuver was the key to breaking the trench-warfare stalemate on the western front in 1917. Modern industrial weaponry placed the advantage with the defender during the Great War. Pershing. therefore, came to appreciate the necessity to support maneuver with firepower. This led to the AEF's adoption of fire-and-maneuver infantry tactics and combined arms involving infantry, artillery, tanks, and aircraft. #militaryhistory

My favorite paragraph in the USMC's "Warfighting" pamphlet: "Besides traits such as endurance and #courage that all warfare demands, maneuver warfare puts a premium on certain particular human skills and traits. It requires the temperament to cope with #uncertainty. It requires flexibility of mind to deal with fluid and disorderly situations. It requires a certain independence of mind, a #willingness to act with initiative and boldness, an exploitive mindset that takes full advantage of every opportunity, and the moral courage to accept #responsibility for this type of behavior. It is important that this last set of traits be guided by self-discipline and #loyalty to the objectives of seniors. Finally, maneuver warfare requires the ability to #think above our own level and to act at our level in a way that is in consonance with the requirements of the larger situation."
