A simple way to evaluate your program daily! Offering high-quality activities is one of the top reasons families choose a summer program. It's important that every summer camp is providing the best programming. Evaluate your program by answer these questions ✅ Is this a safe program? ✅ Is this a premier program? ✅ Is this an inclusive program? ✅ What is the value of this program? ✅ Does the program match our Y’s values? ✅ What are the kids walking away with? What questions do you ask?

Moving into the month of August, I like looking to establish goals for the back half of the year. For those of us involved in school-based programming, this time of year means a transitional space between ESY services and the next school year. The perfect moment to kick up our feet and reflect. If this is not accurate to your experience, carve out intentional space, even for a small period of time, to think on these ideas: What am I most proud of so far this year? When did I learn a lot this year? What are the most powerful things I've learned so far in 2024? What am I still striving toward? What could I do today to take a small step toward my hopes? Any answers you'd like to drop here? Comment below!

Teaching programming as students move through their education and adapting to their advancing levels can be a trouble spot for many educators. 💻 This paper for the 2024 SITE Conference - Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education by Jason McKenna, Yuhan(Jimmy) Lin, and David Weintrop explores how the VEX Continuum's scaffolded approach helps transition students from one programming environment to the next, supporting them throughout their programming education journey! 📖 Read the full article here: https://buff.ly/4bCMf1V

I hope to win my first SXSW Panel Picker election, just like my real first election in 1990! And for a great topic: Forty percent of full-time undergraduates work, with the majority working 20-34 hours a week. First-generation college students are much more likely than other students to work longer hours and much less likely to secure career-boosting internships. Vote for our SXSW EDU session in PanelPicker this week, “Learning While Earning: Rethinking Student Employment,” with Ping Shih, Principal, Growth & Strategy at Intuit, Louie Rodriguez, J.D., Vice Provost for Professional Development, Engagement, and Strategic Initiatives for The University of Texas at El Paso, Iris Palmer, Director of Community Colleges at New America and me to explore new models of student work and employment that are disrupting the broken economics of working while in college—and creating meaningful work experience for today’s increasingly diverse college students. Use this link: https://lnkd.in/ee7bXDGY - you must create an account if you don't have one. Thanks all - vote early & vote often.
