Safety is a core value at CHS. Our environment, health and safety (EHS) team plays a crucial part in keeping safety the top priority in the work we do. Tom Brower leads our EHS team. "We're accountable for helping employees understand and operate with safety in mind, “ he says. "The key is to create a culture that identifies the risks involved with the work being performed, whether that involves grain handling, driving, oil production or other functions, and work to ensure employees have controls in place to protect themselves and others against safety risks." Congratulations to our Stämmer of the Week, Iñaki Laborde! The daily work to maintain the quality of operations often goes unnoticed in a company, especially when it comes to maintaining order. It's one of those things where people only notice it when something goes wrong. Iñaki and the Quality Operations team work tirelessly during the year to ensure that all of Stämm can work in a safe environment. From having an environmental management system in place to dealing with contractors and establishing protocols for handling pathogenic waste, the team is always willing to go the extra mile. Their work involves meeting standards for safety and hygiene, but also for quality, documentation, equipment and environmental care. This multifaceted team is flexible, attentive and full of jacks of all trades. Their willingness to go above and beyond is based on one key quality: versatility. Whatever the time, when asked the question arises: "who you're gonna call", the answer is (almost) always: Quality Operations. If you want to learn more about the QO Teäm, check out our post in which we highlight their outstanding work: https://lnkd.in/dZKzXysm Thanks to Iñaki and the whole team for being the foundation that allows Stämm to tread safely wherever it goes!

🔥At EPIT Group we understand the critical importance of managing risks associated with flammable substances in distilleries. Here are essential DSEAR priorities to keep your distillery safe: ✅ Risk Assessment: identify and assess hazards from dangerous substances. ✅ Hazardous Area Classification: define and manage risk zones. ✅ Control Measures: minimise and control the presence of dangerous substances. ✅ Mitigation Measures: implement strategies to reduce incident impact. ✅ Emergency Planning: develop and communicate robust emergency plans. ✅ Information & Training: equip employees with knowledge and skills for safety. ✅ Equipment Positioning: optimise layout to enhance safety and efficiency. ✅ Ongoing Compliance: regularly review and update safety measures. 🦺Prioritising these steps ensures a safe and efficient distillery environment. 🚨 Interested on your thoughts on this ‼️ I read an article a while back and now I can’t find it. I’m not sure who to credit, but my memory recalls something along these lines regarding “Safe vs Unsafe” observations. Do you believe the safety profession has an unnecessary fixation on measurements based purely on negative values? When utilizing a behavioral based safety program, are improvements more effectively measured through safe or unsafe observations? Once process gaps, hazards, or trends are identified and action plan(s) are implemented, can you measure the success of the action plan through only unsafe observations captured by employees?

Safety always comes first! On Monday, I participated in a safety walk with the Orion Corporation Executive Management Board around our new cream packaging line in Turku, Finland. The line will become operational in December, and it has several new safety improvements, including the automation of manual packaging tasks. The safety walk reinforces a culture of safety leadership within Orion. It provides a unique opportunity to engage in direct conversations with our personnel regarding safety-related matters. Whether addressing challenges, achievements, or sharing best practices, these discussions serve as a catalyst for strengthening safety throughout our entire company, from production to our final products. With new investments, it is especially important to conduct a thorough assessment of various occupational safety risks before commissioning and ensure the safest possible operation. #safety #WeAreOrion

As you may have noticed, each quarter Nebula Safety & Environmental identifies a "safety focus". What this means is that on multiple fronts, we consider a generalized overview of a specific safety related topic. Internally, we focus our attention on regulatory updates, literature reviews, remote learning, and retraining around the identified subject. In concert with our internal focus, we look outward and work to provide on our own contributions to public knowledge through our safety bulletins and webinars. In 2023 much of our focus was Employee Engagement, spearheaded by Chris Robinsons presentation, "...And the Regulator Clapped", that was given at the 2023 Global Congress on Process Safety (GCPS). For quarter 1, 2024, we have decided on a back-to-basics review of our primary product line, risk assessments as it ties in perfectly with the next paper, we will be presenting at the 2024 GCPS, entitled “Ensuring Success in the Process Hazard Analysis: The Imperative of Accurate and Accessible Process Safety Information”. I have been accused many times of overthinking, oversharing, and overwriting. This paper was no exception, and our reviewer wisely suggested we remove several pages that described the regulatory driven Process Safety Information (PSI) elements required for a Process Hazard Analysis (PHA). As the sections did contain valuable information it has been moved to an appendix in the paper and I am presenting it here, for your consideration. So, without further pontificating from me, I would like to present our first safety bulletin of the year, which is an excerpt from the paper Nebula Safety & Environmental will be presenting at the 2024 GCPS conference to be held in New Orleans. Come listen to Nebula present on Tuesday March 26th, 2024, at 9:15am (220-221 New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center). Best regards, John #GCPS2024 #NebulaSafety #NSE #ProcessSafety
