We're excited to share that Fredrick Royan, Global Practice Area Leader for Sustainability and Circular Economy Practice at Frost & Sullivan and Chair of SWAN - The Smart Water Networks Forum and its India Alliance, has recently collaborated with other leading industry experts to offer valuable insights on the current growth prospects in India's smart water market through the SWAN India Alliance Think Tank.💧 Fred shares the Top 6 Takeaways: 6P(Policies, Products, Processes, People/Personas, Partnerships and Platforms) framework of Policies2Platforms. 1. Policies –Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM): 800 million in close to 600,000 villages will receive 55 litres per person per day meeting specified levels of water quality. Ashok Natarajan highlighted that the AMRUT initiative focussed on urban sector with $40 Bn over the 5 years to cover 500 main cities. The recently launched Central Public Health & Environmental Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO) manual for water and wastewater treatment systems has two chapters focussed on Digital Twins and Smart Water Metering(co-authored by Ashok Natarajan). 2. Products – Policies are influencing the design and development of products such as smart water sensors, meters and other solutions in India. Amruta Kar from Vassar Labs and Ms. Jayamala from KUIDFC highlighted a smart water project for the 4 cities in Karnataka which covered water quality monitoring, water billing and asset-management. 3. Processes – Customer Demand Side Management (CDSM) will be crucial to measure, monitor and manage through the smart solutions to improving and enhancing efficiencies and resilience of water supply and sewerage networks. Nicolas Bockhoff – COO Water Services for SUEZ India highlighted that there is a strong opportunity for AI to drive scale, speed and savings. 4. People/Personas – People and more importantly personas(both on the supply and the demand side) will be crucial to understand and evaluate in terms of expertise/skill sets and understanding and preferences will be key to target productivity improvements for operators and technicians. 5. Partnerships – We are witnessing partnerships between start-ups and water utilities. sourav daspatnaik – Managing Director of Swach Environment Private Limited mentioned the partnership with FIDO Tech and having installed their AI solutions for leakage management in Nangloi. Nicolas from Suez India is also engaging start-ups such as SmartTerra in their water utility services for the city of Coimbatore. 6. Platforms – The ultimate objective of policies are to ensure key outcomes are delivered. The JJM and AMRUT 2.0 are excellent examples of data and outcome driven initiatives for water which is also providing a platform to monitor the water services across rural areas in India and once completed will become the largest smart water grid in the world. This initiative aims to support environmentally sustainable projects within India's small business sector, promoting green growth and climate resilience. Small businesses in India will be provided with concessional loans to adopt various mitigation and adaptation technologies under the facility. The funding consists of a USD 200 million facility for concessional loans, while the remaining USD 15.6 million is grant support from GCF. This grant will be utilized to build the capacity of various stakeholders, including MSMEs and PFIs, to understand low-emission and climate-resilient technologies. The FMAP program is expected to result in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 35.3 million tonnes. Additionally, the adaptation activities will lead to substantial water savings and enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities, benefiting more than 10.8 million people. SIDBI has already approved its first project under this facility, allocating USD 24.5 million to the Avaana Sustainability Fund to stimulate the startup ecosystem. Hi, I am Asheesh Chatterjee, a CA, CMA (India & UK) and an alumnus of Kellogg School of Management; I love talking about building blocks for the next level of growth and excellence. #SustainableIndia #GreenGrowth #ClimateResilience #SmallBusinessSupport #ConcessionalLoans #GreenClimateFund #GHGReduction #WaterSavings #CommunityResilience #SIDBI #AvaanaSustainabilityFund #FMAP #ClimateAdaptation #LowEmissionTech #MSME

📰 The news of scorching cities is everywhere, and soon - just as monsoon picks up - we may hear about drowning cities as well. It's clear that India’s growth path - to become a developed economy - will have to cross the turbulent river of climate change multiple times. To navigate that, we must build bridges—bridges of #energy_security, #climate_security, leadership in #climate_tech and a #LIfestyleForEnvironment 🌇 With nearly 8% of global carbon emissions coming only from cement and concrete - humanity's most used material - and the fact that an unprecedented urbanization and infrastructure growth is expected to happen in India, it is crucial to approach its use with optimal designs, right material substitution, durability, reusability, eliminating wastage, and an ultimate coupling with carbon capture. 👍 We recognize that building confidence in any new material or solution takes time. Therefore, we proceed cautiously yet boldly, with a strong focus on performance and quality through our Pilot and Scale methodology at the Lodha Net Zero Urban Accelerator, and in collaboration with our industry partners. 🤝 Earlier this year, we topped some of our buildings with a higher GGBS concrete mix, reducing their overall embodied carbon by approximately 15%. Now, we move to the next pilot with #LC3 (Limestone Caclined Clay Cement). We thank the teams from LC3 Technology Resource Centre, @IIT Delhi, RMI India, and GIZ India for collaborating with us to making this a reality. 🇮🇳 We are open to exploring all clean technologies related to the built environment that need scaling for a cleaner, safer, prosperous, and stronger India. We are excited to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between - IIT-Delhi, RMI India Foundation, and Lodha to initiate the first commercial use of LC3 (Limestone Calcined Clay Cement) produced by a major Indian cement supplier, at Lodha’s Palava City. This initiative comes as a part of Lodha Net Zero Urban Accelerator's decarbonisation efforts and Lodha’s commitment to making net zero the norm for the built environment. An innovative blend, LC3 helps achieve emission reductions of up to 40% compared to Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), while also exhibiting improved durability characteristics. Through this partnership, our objective is to generate compelling evidence and foster confidence in the broader ecosystem of developers, contractors, industry supply chains, and policymakers regarding the advantages of LC3. We believe the recent introduction of IS code 18189 for LC3 in India, will catalyze wider acceptance and adoption of LC3 in the industry, paving the way for scaling low-carbon cement blends. Further, LC3's effective at scale deployment will play a vital role in India’s journey to reduce 45% of its emission intensity by 2030, as outlined in its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, while also setting a precedent for other nations to adopt LC3 and strive to contribute to the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) initiative. We would also like to thank GIZ India for their support under the “Indo-German Support Project for Climate Action in India (CAP)”. Under the umbrella of the Indo-German development cooperation, the CAP project is funded under the International Climate Initiative (IKI), Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and implemented by GIZ India in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change MoEF&CC, Government of India.
