Celebrating #Pride #Month (post 2) How can we Celebrate Pride Month? 1. we can join local Pride parades, festivals, and events to show support and solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. or we can attend virtual events and webinars if in-person participation is not possible. 2. we can educate ourselves and others about LGBTQ+ rights, and issues. 3. we can support LGBTQ+ authors, artists, and creators by consuming and promoting their work. 4. we can support LGBTQ+ Organizations by donating or volunteering. 5. last but not least, we can/should use inclusive language, respect pronouns, and stand against discrimination in all forms. This creates safe and inclusive spaces in your workplace, school, or community for LGBTQ+ individuals.

With Pride Month upon us, you may start to see a lot of companies changing their logos and profile pictures to rainbows. And sure, any allyship is better than none, right? But if you want to do something real, something that isn’t just slapping a new color lockup on your logo, why not try out a bit of genuine allyship? If you haven’t already, now might be a good time to start incorporating pronouns into your email signatures. Or, if you want to do something bigger, your community is a great place to start. Whether you’re covering the cost of banned books by LGBTQ+ writers and donating them back to the community, or you’re producing pro-bono videos for a local LGBTQ+ nonprofit, there are plenty of ways to make an impact. As respected LGBTQ+ advocate Stan Mitchell said: “If you claim to be someone’s ally, but aren’t getting hit by the stones being thrown at them, you aren’t standing close enough.” Maybe it’s time for you to get a little closer.

Diversity is absolutely essential for developing strong teams, and high performing organisations that are robust, agile and innovative. Everybody should feel comfortable to be who they are in the workplace, and every workplace should make effort to ensure it is inclusive. Visibility is a key part of that.

Be an ally. Be Kind. We ALL have one thing in common, we are all human beings first. Yet, so many different people continue to experience discrimination for a multitude of reasons. Financial wellness in the LBGTQ+ community face unique challenges and setbacks-- we all deserve to have access to financial products and services in an equitable environment. The 2024 LGBTQ+ Financial Wellness Report's key findings are a rude awakening that there is much work to be done for better financial inclusion. *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. Both BIPOC and younger (age 18-24) LGBTQ+ adults are even more likely to say they are financially unwell. *Three in ten (30.8%) LGBTQ+ adults say they have experienced discrimination while accessing financial services *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. *Nearly 60% (59.7%) of LGTBQ+ adults have annual household incomes below $75,000. "The data underscore the need for our economic empowerment programs, especially for younger BIPOC LGBTQ+ folks. I hope the data are a call to action for organizations serving our community. Given what we know about who is struggling the most, these organizations have an opportunity to center BIPOC young adults by being culturally responsive, trauma informed, and offering voice and choice to young people.” Maruka Rivers, Director of Economic Empowerment Programs at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation How is your credit union being an ally? Socialization is a one of the main benefits of public school. It's the opportunity to learn from others, engage and form connections with your peers. A child learns to respectful interaction with people who are different from them. This is pretty basic but fundamental. Diversity, equity, and inclusion is not just theory. It has practical application. The teachers and the school administration have to facilitate this learning, because they have been conditioning the opposite for far too long. Denying one child the opportunity to demonstrate faith and leadership doesn't need the reference to a LGBT group for support. We can't teach what we don't know and we can't advocate for equity and support negativity. We are the role models for goodness sake! Your children's role models are not phantom people on TV. They are watching you.
