🚀 New Report Release: Building Prosperity! 🚀 We are excited to announce the publication of Ellen MacArthur Foundation's latest report: "Building Prosperity: Unlocking the Potential of a Nature-Positive, Circular Economy for Europe." 🌍🏗️ This insightful report highlights the urgent need to shift towards a regenerative, circular economy. As nature continues to be overexploited and undervalued, the report emphasizes that our economic health is intrinsically linked to the health of our environment. 📥 Access to the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gu6QqiCM Key points from the report: 🌍 A true circular economy is nature-positive by design, paving the way for a resilient economy and better societal outcomes. 🌍 By decoupling economic activities from the consumption of finite resources, we can achieve climate and biodiversity targets while delivering benefits across various sectors. 🌍 Focusing on Europe’s built environment, the report reveals significant economic opportunities through increased resilience, competitiveness, and urban vibrancy. 🌍 The construction sector, accounting for the largest share of Europe's material footprint and over 36% of its total emissions, stands at a critical juncture requiring immediate action. 🌍 Six circular economy strategies have been identified for their potential to drive economic and environmental gains, delivering wider social and environmental outcomes. This report makes it clear that we don't have to choose between economic growth and nature preservation. By adopting a nature-positive, circular economy model, we can achieve mutually reinforcing benefits across the economy, nature, and society. Congrats to the main authors! 🌍 Circular Economy in Built Environments: A Trillion Pound Opportunity for Net Zero! 🌱 A recent report by the World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur Foundation has underscored the pivotal role of a circular economy in the built environment for achieving a net zero carbon footprint. Titled 'Built Environment and Circular Economy: The Trillion Pound Opportunity', it reveals that embracing circular principles can lead to a staggering savings of £2.5 trillion! 🔄 My own journey in sustainable development has shown me the tangible benefits of integrating circular economy models. From significantly reduced waste to enhanced resource efficiency in construction projects, the positive impacts are undeniable. Why should we care? 🤔 1. Environmental stewardship: Promotes sustainability and diminishes the ecological footprint of our constructions. 2. Economic incentive: The savings projected are not just numbers; they translate to real economic benefits for businesses and societies. Imagine transforming the way our buildings and infrastructures are conceived, constructed, and decommissioned, turning them into perpetual cycles of repurpose and reuse. 💡 What steps can industries take to integrate circular economy practices in their operations? Do you see other industries where circular economy models can be beneficial? 💬 Let's discuss the potentials and challenges! #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #NetZero #BuiltEnvironment #EconomicOpportunity #WEF #EllenMacArthurFoundation Join in the conversation and let’s optimize our resources for a sustainable future! 🌐

𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 Circularity takes place in and for local communities. A circular economy calls for collaboration among the public-, private, and third-sector (civil society) stakeholders and requires governments, businesses and communities to be creative and flexible. A circular community promotes an equitable transition to sustainability across the urban space through multiple city functions and departments in cross-sectoral collaboration with research institutions, local businesses, and community residents. 4th Session Highlights by @Oluwaseyi Olarinde #AIIDEVAfrica. Circular design thinking is an extension of design thinking that integrates circular economy principles to create sustainable, regenerative solutions. This approach focuses on designing out waste, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. When applied to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), circular design thinking offers a strategic framework to holistically address environmental, social, and economic challenges. Circular design thinking provides a robust framework for creating sustainable, innovative solutions that address the interconnected challenges outlined by the SDGs. By designing products and systems that are regenerative by nature, circular design thinking minimises environmental impact and fosters economic resilience and social well-being. Adopting this approach is crucial for achieving a sustainable and equitable future. #Innovation #Sustainability #SDGs #AIIDEVAfrica PS: Diagram by: Ellen McArthur Foundation-2015, outline of Circular Economy.

#Circularity is often met with resistance due to the complexity of its implementation. Helping industry participants understand the benefits of moving to a circular built environment (CBE) can motivate the change to more sustainable practices. The benefits of CBE include: • Future-proofing buildings • Future-proofing construction • Lower-cost, more affordable buildings • Ecological sustainability Learn more about the benefits of CBE and actions to mobilize the industry to shift toward circularity: https://bit.ly/3Y8ocVJ Tima Bansal Liz Miller Carly MacArthur Innovation North

We’re Designing Ourselves Into Crisis—It’s Time for a Radical Shift Flooded cities. Burning forests. Supply chains that accelerate biodiversity loss. These aren’t just disasters—they are design failures. For too long, we’ve built against nature, treating it as something to control or exploit. But what if we flipped the script? What if we designed as nature—restorative, resilient, and regenerative? In our latest op-ed, we explore why regenerative design is the only viable path forward, why sustainability alone isn’t enough, and why leadership in this space is more urgent than ever. This isn’t just about reducing harm—it’s about actively rebuilding the natural systems we depend on. It’s time to move beyond outdated thinking. The future of design isn’t about mimicking nature—it’s about becoming nature. Read the full piece here https://lnkd.in/gQCjV7Dc, and let’s start building a world that thrives. #RegenerativeDesign #Sustainability #Leadership #GPM

"Sustainability: Beyond the Myth, Toward Reality" Sustainability often feels like a beautiful myth, a lofty ideal discussed in international forums, neatly wrapped in plans and goals. But is that all it should be? Or can we, as individuals and societies, bring this vision to life in tangible, meaningful ways? I first grappled with these questions during my involvement in the Rise Up SDGs program at my higher secondary school Sri Seshaas International Public School. I enthusiastically participated—joining virtual international meetings, creating vibrant posters, and sketching my dreams of a better world. Yet, even as I poured my creativity into these projects, a thought nagged at me: Could these efforts truly move the needle on sustainability, or were they merely symbolic gestures? Consider something as simple as paper—the very canvas of our creations. We use it liberally in our drawings, posters, and notes, seldom pausing to think about the trees felled, the water consumed, or the energy expended to bring it to our hands. "To me, sustainability cannot remain a buzzword confined to PowerPoints and discussions. It must transcend the realm of plans and become the bedrock of our actions." #RiseupSDGs #SDG #Sustainability Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Global Government Forum Sustainable Design Sustainable Urban Development, Oxford University Future Sustainability Forum Youth Sustainability Forum How sustainable is a message of conservation, crafted on a product of deforestation? This paradox isn’t confined to paper. It reflects a broader pattern: we preach sustainability but often fail to embody it. Would my art of "Sustainable Infrastructure" in this paper prove its real purpose to people?
