👖 👩🔬 ∙ New project to tackle textile waste launched! Funded by the EU, the SOLSTICE project will conduct demonstrations in four EU cities and regions - Grenoble, Berlin, Prato, and Catalonia - to showcase new sorting methods for the territorial deployment of a circular textile value chain. Objectives include: ▪ Minimizing and transforming textile waste into renewable resources for the EU textile industry. ▪ Developing a sorting method for textile waste using spectroscopy analysis, which enables precise sorting based on color, composition, and fabric/garment type. ▪ Highlighting the reusability of textile polymers through chemical recycling. ▪ Developing a traceability system as a basis for the future Digital Product Passport (DPP). ▪ Rethinking the textile and plastics value chain for scalability and replicability, with a focus on establishing new governance for the circular economy. Over 42 months, SOLSTICE will work with local stakeholders to promote knowledge transfer and collaboration. The project is led by the French chemistry platform Axel'One and involves stakeholders across the supply chain, including Textile ETP, Recyc'ELit SAS, Circle Economy, Circular Berlin, TEXFOR - Confederación de la Industria Textil, TECHTERA, German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research. Good luck to them!

How can we scale circularity in the textile industry? 🔄👚 Silje Lambrechts, Investment Manager at Summa, discussed why we should invest more in technology and circularity to innovate the textile industry at the TOMRA Textiles x The Conduit: A New Textile Revolution event in Oslo today. "We have managed to drive recycling in many other industries because of regulations, incentive schemes, and extended producer responsibility schemes. These are the fundamental requirements to transition this industry to a more economical and buyable solution," Silje argued. Are you curious about our perspective on waste and circularity? Dive into our report to discover why we believe that EU circular markets could be worth EUR 1.5tn by 2040 and save 650 Mt CO2e annually here: https://lnkd.in/dZ94CA77 Thank you for having us and for the great discussion, Cyndi Rhoades, founder of WornAgain Technologies and co-founder of Circle-8 Textile Ecosystems, Jenny Skavlan, co-founder of FÆBRIK, Simen Mørdre from Vandre AS and Vibeke Siljan Krohn from TOMRA Textiles.

This afternoon, we kicked off the autumn period with our first of two strategy roundtables focusing on the industrial capacities for true European textile circularity. In this session on mechanical recycling, we engaged in a discussion with our expert speakers, Ana Rodes from Recover and Louisa Temal from SOEX and I:Collect , addressing questions such as: ♻ What are the key challenges for collectors & sorters when trying to meet the material demand of recyclers? 🚮What are the trends in post-consumer waste collection? 🪡Is availability of the right quantities and qualities of waste materials a challenge for the recyclers? 📈Is there a growing market demand for recycled fibres? 💶How to overcome the economic challenges of recycled materials? 📜What is the impact of EU regulations on the business? Thanks to Chris Deloof, Managing Director of ReHubs for moderating, and to our own Textile ETP's Kamilla Drubina for organising the roundtable. Would you like to be part of the future discussions and webinars deep-diving into the key questions and innovations of biobased textiles and sustainability? Join the Innovation Hub! ReLondon report on London's packaging foot print. 4.1 million tonnes of CO2eq per year – equivalent to half of all transport emissions in London. https://lnkd.in/dScUPn5z I had the pleasure of attending the #CEweek2024 event hosted by the incredible team at ReLondon, timed perfectly with the report on London's packaging consumption. It's fair to say that London has made progress, but achieving a NetZero 2030 will take a great deal more work from all sectors (government, business, entrepreneurship), to make this landmark possible. Some highlights from the report - you can download the PDF from the link below and comments. 💡 36% recycling rate for all packaging waste. 💡 Approximately 2,214,000 tonnes of packaging is placed on the market in London each year. 💡 250KG of plastic packaging consumed by each Londoner 💡 Global plastics use has quadrupled in 30 years, with 31% being found in packaging. And more.
