1. We have to stop defining "affordable housing" as just the upfront costs of a house or condo. Energy costs have to be included. Getting in a home doesn't do any good if a person or family can't afford to *stay* in the home. 2. According to PNNL's 2021 study on the impact of #energyefficiency codes on housing costs, homeowners in most states experience a monetary net-gain the 1st year they're in a home built to current codes. When will we get more positive?! 🤔 We are seeing a lot of positive strides and support from the #energy industry and the government when it comes to the transition to heat pumps in the home, with new green finance solutions being developed and industry leaders like Octopus Energy tackling cost, many companies like the HPIN - The Heat Pump Installer Network and Freedom Heat Pumps Ltd. working to upskill installers, and the UK government funding new green initiatives. And yet, most news headlines appear to be negative! So, to follow up on a more positive angle in the recent article from the BBC News – ‘Will hotter heat pumps win over homeowners?’ – Our Co-founder Thomas Farquhar debunks a few myths fuelled by the national press.👇 🔥 Heat pumps only work in well-insulated homes. Heat pumps are just like a boiler. A heat pump is a source of heat, a less insulated house means more heat is needed whatever the system, so a boiler or a heat pump - a bigger heating system is required. 💦 Heat pumps don’t supply enough hot water for baths and showers. Plenty of heat pumps go up to 70c but you couldn’t shower in that anyway, so why would anyone be bothered about temperatures above 40c/45c? 🌨 Heat Pumps don’t work when it’s cold outside. It would be pretty pointless if that was the case, there is heat in the air down to -27c so plenty in the UK where below 0c isn’t often. 🛠 Other countries aren’t fitting heat pumps. We are actually behind Europe on heat pump installations, Norway have done 64% of homes, Finland 43%, Sweden 42% etc. We are the anomaly.   ❌ You need to have underfloor heating. Radiators are perfectly fine with heat pumps too just like a boiler. 🏠 Not every house is suitable. Plenty of studies including one called The Electrification of Heat by Energy Systems Catapult confirmed that any property can have a heat pump.
