With these latest graduates, Brighton employees have now implemented 49 innovation projects for a total of $1.1 million in projected annual savings.
Brighton's Leadership and Performance Academy is an award-winning five-week program that teaches participants LEAN skills for identifying, analyzing, and solving pain points in their day-to-day work. It also empowers participants to lead from any seat, build winning teams, and deliver exceptional customer service both internal and external.
Beginning last year, the Academy also began accepting candidates from other government entities and nonprofits. You can learn more about the Brighton Performance & Leadership Academy at https://lnkd.in/gSjQxfzF.

I cannot speak highly enough about the great program that the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce puts on every year.
Being a young(er) leader in an organization, especially one that oversees higher-level employees, can be challenging in ways you may not initially realize. Building camaraderie and professional relationships with a smaller and smaller number of peers as you move up the chain can be isolating.
The Community Leadership Insitute (CLI) can provide young leaders with the peer-to-peer guidance, professional relationships, and frankly friendships that are so critical to the growth of young leaders in Central Mass.
For a region that is often times overlooked, NCMCoC is doing their part to prepare the next cohort of true economic and community leaders.
Thanks to Kat Deal and Roy Nascimento for their continued leadership in North Central Mass.

3 things I notice as a VP (and 1 thing I need from nonprofits)
Time away
Sometimes I (half) wonder if it matters what content we offer. I believe one of the biggest features of our programs lies in orchestrating dedicated time away for key decision makers. It's during these days spent around the table with a coach that the magic happens. While educational content is of course valuable (you need a board policy manual, KPI dashboard, and a segmented donor list), it's the invaluable opportunity for leaders to align on their five strategic next steps. That is the “good to great” moment.
What I hear leaders need
As you can tell from the blog post, we still feel board leadership, fund development, and executive coaching are highly leveraged content areas. But as I listen to executive directors, I hear they need a better/easier way to do assessment, measurement, and evaluation – that doesn’t burn out front line workers. They're sensing a widening technology gap, struggling with HR departments that haven't kept pace with the organization's growth (especially in managing remote work, leadership development, and leading multigenerational teams). They're seeking better storytelling techniques, and many desire coaching on leading when they no longer have to been in the weeds with day-to-day operations. (We are listening and working on curriculum and program ideas that can fill current capacity gaps.)
Impact Framework
No matter what the program, we consistently teach around three overarching themes:
Aptitude (enhanced skills), Acumen (improved decision-making encompassing cultural awareness, strategic acumen, and resilience), and Community (strengthening partnerships and collaborative abilities). I suppose all leaders desire their guests to think or behave differently because of what they offer.
What I need
EDs have expressed their desire for us to have better coach/consultant referrals. However, I rarely accept names directly from coaches or consultants. Instead, I greatly value referrals from PNW nonprofits who have experienced transformative change through working with a coach. Whether it's strategic planning, board development, succession planning, or leadership coaching, I'm eager to hear about such experiences.
I am all ears and keeping a list.
“When nonprofit leaders, board, and staff commit to growing together, organizations and the fabric of our society are strengthened.”
This week, we are pleased to dive into the Nonprofit Leadership & Development (NLD) sector, led by Kimberly Thornbury. In addition to financial support, many nonprofits benefit from programs and learning opportunities that equip leaders to drive change in their organizations. NLD offers cohort-style programs to strengthen nonprofit leadership, board governance, and fundraising – three key areas that yield disproportionate impact across the organization.

Fundraising, whether via memberships and sponsorships or special funds/campaigns, is a critical component in the operation of any chamber of commerce. However, maximizing returns can be difficult without enough internal organizational bandwidth, record-keeping, leadership engagement and strategy.
