The City received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award again this year for its fiscal year 2024 budget, with particular acknowledgment for performance measures.  The GFOA award is a national recognition. Out of over 1,700 communities across the nation acknowledged each year, only between 20-30 communities are honored with this recognition. Congratulations to our Budget Team for their hard work!

Members of City Council, City leaders, Evanston/Skokie School District 65 leaders, and community members attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the new 5th Ward school in Evanston. The opening goal for the school, which will house 600 K-5 students, is Fall 2026.

We're reimagining public safety! Set to launch on Monday, the new Crisis Alternative Response Evanston (C.A.R.E.) program will provide a non-police response to certain low-risk service calls. The C.A.R.E team consists of dedicated professionals whose lived experience and training allow them to respond to a range of community concerns, from ordinance violations and panhandling to well-being checks. 👋 Meet Brian Zimmerman! Brian serves as the City's Solid Waste Coordinator in the Public Works Agency and has been with the City of Evanston for almost three years. His job involves managing external franchise agreement services for residential collections, recycling, and composting. He also helps with programming, education, and outreach! Two members of our Human Resources team, Interim Human Resources Division Manager Mary Dankwa, MSHR, and HR Generalist Lourdes Tamayo-Marquez attended the 2024 SHRM Annual Conference & Expo! They connected with industry leaders, gained a wealth of knowledge to bring back to our organization, and soaked up inspirational sessions.

Representing the City were 2nd Ward Councilmember Krissie Harris, Tasheik Kerr, Damilola Olabanji, and Jessica I. Cooper, MBA, who engaged in sessions and networking opportunities to bring back valuable insights and strategies for strengthening our community relationships!
