The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill two Part-Time Maintenance Worker Assistant roles. This position works under the direct supervision of a Senior Maintenance Worker and guidance of a Maintenance Worker I/II. Responsibilities will be focused on trash clean-up and disposal in areas throughout the community. These positions will be scheduled to work approximately 25 hours each week. The ideal candidate requires a clean driving record, good communication skills, and have previous related work experience. If you don't grow fast enough - you have yourself a big JOB! Never allow tenants to make repairs. This is a miserable lesson I had to learn the hard way. Typically it goes something like this: They contact you and admit they've caused some cosmetic damage. Usually its drywall for some reason. And like a good person, they offer to do the repair. Tempting because if you're the one doing the work then the offer sounds pretty good. And if you have a part time handyman, you know that scheduling the repairs and collecting the materials is also a pain. So you agree to them doing the repairs. And you go in there to find that they used the wrong materials, wrong paint and its worse than it was before. So now you have to undo the work. Re-do the work, and charge them for it. Never a fun conversation. This is why I'm working to grow a portfolio that financially supports a full-time maintenance technician.
