The SHAPE Your Workplace projects are winding down. Our goal was to support individuals and businesses in preventing and addressing workplace sexual harassment. Generous funding from Justice Canada has allowed us to provide public legal education and individual legal advice to workers across Ontario. There is more to do to ensure that workplaces in Ontario are safe for everyone. Therefore, we will continue to post information and research that: Helps workers to understand their rights and options; Helps employers understand their legal obligations under the law; and Promotes safe and healthy workplaces. Many community legal clinics in Ontario offer employment law services. If you or someone you know is harassed at work, contact your local legal clinic. Go to Contact - Shape (shapeyourworkplace.ca) to find a clinic near you. If they can’t help you, they can direct you to someone who will. We want to thank: The 21 community legal clinics who participated in these projects The employers, unions and other organizations who welcomed us into their workplaces The projects across Canada that collaborated in promoting healthy workplaces; and Justice Canada for making this all possible. #ShapeYourWorkplace #KnowYourRights #Work

At the Municipal Association of Victoria I presented about the challenges of attracting staff into regional areas to work for local governments. Councils need a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges that potential new hires face in the region. Councils must go beyond just advertising the job in question and always sell the region as a whole. Tell potential staff how their life in the region and the organization might play out in the coming years. To grow their population base, councils outside of a two hour drive time radius of Melbourne need to provide jobs, housing, and usually schooling. An all-of-region approach is needed to attract new population. Without new young residents smaller towns age too fast and risk losing services (anything from supermarkets and health facilities to sporting teams).

Principal Consultant - interested in the relationship between places, health, social care and physical activity. Expert evaluator.
Workforce research in social care often (and understandably) focuses on the various challenges the sector faces. But it's important to also understand where things are going well, and where we can learn from others. Our work with Gofal Cymdeithasol Cymru / Social Care Wales brought attention to lots of successes and innovations happening in Wales. While the place-based nature of workforce and social care means not every solution will work everywhere, there are some important lessons that should help employers across the UK.
🤝 We recently published research that looked at the current challenges in attracting and recruiting social care and child care workers in Wales. We worked with an organisation called Urban Foresight to carry out that research, which also focused on the important role Gofalwn Cymru | WeCare Wales has played and will play in the future. Maddy Thompson led the research and has written a blog about its findings for our Insight Collective website. 🗣 "While lots of challenges were highlighted, we also found out that it’s not all bad. Some people are really passionate about working in the sector, and some employers are doing fantastic things to bring them in. There are lots of important lessons that other employers should consider. "We found that across the country, employers and care providers were producing creative responses to the challenge." 👉 Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/eMV_xNMy A big thank you to everyone who's working hard to recruit the best people into social care, and to those delivering care and support across Wales. #SocialCare #Recruitment

Kudos to CRS for an excellent report on employment authorization and social security numbers. I implore every I-9 practitioner to review this document and familiarize themselves with the different employment eligibility criteria for different classes of noncitizens in the United States. It will certainly remain on my desk as an extremely handy reference. https://lnkd.in/ePc9XSd3
