Marine combat instructors can avoid recruiting or drill instructor duty

Finally promoted to Lieutenant, hard work and dedication pays off.

The United States Marine Corps has reintroduced the combat instructor job as a special duty assignment, giving instructors the opportunity to focus solely on training Marines in combat skills. This change allows them to bypass the often-dreaded roles of recruiter or drill instructor. Special duty assignments are highly valued in the Marine Corps and are seen as indicators of a competitive Marine with exceptional qualifications for promotion. Previously, combat instructor roles were not categorized as special duty assignments, but now they hold the same status as recruiter and drill instructor positions. The redesignation of combat instructor roles as special duty assignments brings numerous benefits. Marines in this role will have increased staffing priority, enhanced promotion opportunities, and the ability to choose their next duty station. Special pay will continue to be provided to combat instructors as well. The Marine Corps recognizes the significance of combat instructors in shaping the operational readiness of the force. As a result, there are limited billets available for combat instructors, with a higher preference given to Marines with an infantry military occupational specialty. A great example of failed leadership at senior levels.  The story not being told here:  Caisson used to be a regimental asset, however was moved to fall under HHC 1-3 for command and control purposes. This saw a steady reduction in budget allowance, lack of specialists being able to sit at the table where decisions were made, and a forced environment of “do more with less”.  Caisson Platoon leadership, continually presented risks and concerns to company and Battalion level leadership, sometimes with great effect, sometimes without. Even when they were able to influence CO & BN leadership, they still had to continue to work into meetings (when they were brought forward). There comes a point when needing approval from 4-6 levels separated from where the decision has impact, naturally negatively impacts the decision-maker.  The end result, sadly horses were lost, people at the wrong level were blamed, and yet…leadership still looks to pass the buck, rather than accept what part they played in this. #ownership #accountability #savethecaisson #leadershipdevelopment #righttheship #theoldguard #dobetter https://lnkd.in/eyvfZjQG
