Team selected to design new toll-free, eight-lane Massey tunnel The next stage of design for the new toll-free, eight-lane tunnel to replace the George Massey Tunnel will advance this summer with selection of the Fraser River Tunnel Project’s preferred proponent, Cross Fraser Partnership. The new crossing will replace the George Massey Tunnel with a toll-free, eight-lane immersed tube tunnel that includes three general-purpose travel lanes and a dedicated public transit lane in each direction. The new tunnel will also feature a separate multi-use path to support walking, biking and other active transportation options. Building on the extensive design work already completed by the Province, the project now enters the development phase, which allows a transparent and collaborative approach to tunnel design, and agreement on project costs and risks between the Province and Cross Fraser Partnership. The final design and cost submission will culminate in a design-build agreement. The Cross Fraser Partnership team that will collaborate with the Province through the development phase is comprised of Bouygues Construction Canada Inc., Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas Canada Ltd., Pomerleau BC Inc. and Arcadis Canada Inc. The environmental assessment continues in parallel with the development of the project design and early works with major construction starting in 2026. 🚧🛣️ $190M for Loop 340 Freeway Project in Bellmead 🛣️🚧 The cost of transforming Loop 340 into a freeway in Bellmead has doubled to $190 million since its 2018 announcement, due to a broader scope and rising construction costs. Originally estimated at $85 million, the project now includes four lanes, frontage roads, and overpasses, aimed at easing traffic congestion and promoting economic growth. Funding sources include $26 million from MPO, a $110 million federal grant application, and potential future commitments. With more funding available, a larger expansion project is underway. Expected benefits: reduced crashes (50 reported in 2023), improved drainage, and enhanced economic prospects for Bellmead and surrounding areas. Bellmead City Manager sees it as a vital long-term investment for the city's growth and development. 🌟 #Infrastructure #BellmeadExpansion https://lnkd.in/gcWCqPTy

4 Key Transportation Projects Expected to be Completed by 2024 1, The first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City is Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien, which is expected to be commercially operated from July 2024, after 12 years of construction. The 20-km long route from Ben Thanh, District 1 to Long Binh depot, Thu Duc City includes 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations, with a total investment of over 43,700 billion VND. According to the Urban Railway Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City (the investor), in March 2024, the contractor is expected to complete the installation of the electromechanical system; inspect, remedy any deficiencies as well as adjust each device, ensuring smooth operations. The operating unit is expected to complete the training of personnel in June. The trains running on the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien route are manufactured in Japan, including three 61.5-meter-long three-car trains with a capacity of 930 passengers. According to the design, the elevated section of the trains runs at a maximum speed of 110 km/hour, while the underground section runs at 80 km/hour. 2, The Nhon – Hanoi urban railway route is 12.5 km long, including 8 elevated stations and 4 underground stations. The elevated section from Nhon to S9 Station (in front of the University of Transport and Communications) is 8.5 km long, and the remaining 4 km is underground to Hanoi Station. The project was commenced in 2010 and the total investment was adjusted in May 2023 to over 34,800 billion VND. On January 26, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board announced that the overall progress of the route was 77.76%. It is expected to complete the test run of the elevated section of the Nhon – Hanoi route at the end of April 2024. By the end of June 2024, complete the system safety certification, inspection and acceptance handover by the investor and state management agencies to transfer to the Hanoi Railway Co., Ltd. for commercial operation. 3, The Dieu Chau – Bai Vot section of the North-South Expressway is 49.3 km long and construction commenced in May 2021, with a planned completion in May 2024. This is one of the three sections of the North-South Expressway invested under the public-private partnership (PPP) form. Of the total investment capital of over 11,150 billion VND, approximately 5,090 billion VND is mobilized from investors, and over 6,060 billion VND is contributed by the State. As of January 25, the progress of the project is about 67.54% of the contract (2.95% behind the 4th adjusted progress). There are only about 4 months left to implement the project, with a remaining output of about 2,660 billion VND, averaging 665 billion VND per month (equivalent to 7.74% of the contract value). Based on this, the Ministry of Transport evaluates that contractors need to concentrate resources over 2023 about 2.12 times to meet the project schedule. 4, Cam Lam – Vinh Hao Expressway is one of the three sections of the North-South Expressway P...

CRE research professional and head of a national commercial real estate research platform for Newmark in Canada providing thought leadership, operational excellence, team building and market insights
Drivers and people who take transit in the Lower Mainland are closer to faster and more convenient travel as both the Broadway Subway Project and the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project have reached significant milestones, the BC government announced May 24, 2024. "Tunnel boring operations have finished, marking the completion of the most technically complex and challenging part of the new subway construction. Meanwhile, construction of the main tower for the new bridge to replace the existing Pattullo, connecting Surrey and New Westminster, is complete. This is the tallest bridge tower in British Columbia." “Despite facing significant global challenges, we’ve seen tremendous progress on both of these projects,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “These projects will move people and goods more quickly and safely around the Lower Mainland.” "The Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project started at the beginning of the pandemic in February 2020. Since then, it has faced significant challenges, including inflationary pressures and global supply issues related to the delivery of specialized components from around the world. In addition, the bridge tower construction took longer than expected. As a result, the new bridge is expected to open in fall 2025." "The new bridge will provide people with better connections and modern, wider lanes separated by a centre median barrier and dedicated walking and cycling lanes. Once complete, the bridge will provide a safer commute for people driving, cycling, or walking, and a more efficient connection for goods movement between Canada and the United States." "Design and construction activities on the Broadway Subway Project, which also began during the pandemic in September 2020, have taken longer than originally expected, including work to relocate major utilities and install traffic decks, while keeping traffic moving along Broadway. Tunnelling, which included boring under the Canada Line, and station excavation also took longer. This was in part due to a five-week concrete strike in 2022 that delayed construction of the launch pad for the tunnel-boring machines. Despite making significant progress so far, the new line is expected to go into service in fall 2027." https://lnkd.in/gxEuuRYe #metrovancouver #transportation #infrastructure #rapidtransit

What is wrong with UK CONSTRUCTION! And shows how we can get something so wrong and cost go out of control. Just look at #hs2 Do know of any other project that's gone this much over #budget and timescale Small railway footbridge takes longer to build than #EmpireStateBuilding Network Rail's The 102-storey Empire State Building in #NewYork is one of the world’s most #iconic buildings, attracting millions of #visitors a year. A rather less spectacular feat of #engineering, a footbridge at a #railway #station near #Reading, has taken longer to build and cost about the same to construct in cash terms. The pedestrian walkway at Theale station in west #Berkshire was already ten years overdue when National Rail finally began construction in January 2023. Even so, it is not expected to be completed until spring this year, and the #budget has spiralled to £9.5 million from a projected £1.25 million in 2011. #networkrail #railwayindustry #gwr #hs2 #constructionindustry #construction #usa #europe #australia #loveconstruction constructionbuddies.co.uk

🛤 Network Rail prepares for £3M Perthshire bridge replacement 🛤 Network Rail is preparing to start a £3M #bridgereplacement in #Killiecrankie, Perthshire. Work on the Rannoch Road bridge, off the B8079, will see the #existing #bridge deck replaced over a period of six months. Engineers from #NetworkRail and contractor AmcoGiffen will also make alterations to the bridge abutments to accommodate a new concrete arch deck on the 128-year-old single-span structure, which sits over the Highland Main Line. In order to allow traffic to continue flowing, a #temporarybridge will be installed before the existing one is removed. Network Rail scheme project manager Susan Menmuir (Rennie) said: “#Renewal work such as this is essential in allowing Network Rail to #maintain and #improve our assets across Scotland’s Railway. “This is a significant piece of engineering and not without its challenges. Not only are we replacing the bridge deck, we’re also installing a #temporarystructure next to it and within a tight space. However, this allows vehicle access to be maintained for the community during delivery of much of the works. “Replacing the 128-year-old bridge will ensure that work on this scale will not be required for at least another 120-years.” The six-month programme is set to start on 2 September and run until March 2025. It is part of a £1.95bn modernisation programme of railways in Scotland. Access at Rannoch Road will be maintained apart from over two consecutive weekends when the existing bridge is demolished and the new bridge is installed. This will be done over two consecutive weekends of extended engineering works, with no trains running on the line, from 30 November to 2 December and 7-9 December. Community drop-in sessions are being held later this month for residents and businesses to ask questions about the work. Menmuir added: “We are grateful to the community for their patience while we complete this vital work.” https://lnkd.in/eGgyzCRW

Expanding Tôn Đức Thắng Road (Nhơn Trạch, Đồng Nai) by 10 times at the intersection with Vành đai 3, it will become the gateway to the largest airport in the country in the future. In early 2024, Dong Nai province began a series of important infrastructure projects. Among them are two projects to build and expand the 25B and 25C roads. Both of these roads are the most important transport routes in Nhon Trach as they pass through a series of urban and industrial areas, while also directly connecting to Long Thanh International Airport in the future; connecting Nhon Trach center with Ho Chi Minh City and National Highway 51, Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3. Investing in and upgrading these two roads will have a positive impact on the interregional transportation network. From there, it will affect the real estate market in Nhon Trach. Specifically, for the construction project of Ton Duc Thang road, the section from Nhon Trach center to Quach Thi Trang road is about 3.8km long. The investment scale of the project, the section from the starting point to Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, is 3km long and will be built with a road width of 80m, 10 times larger than the current road scale. The remaining section is 800m long with a road width of 51m. The total investment capital of the project is 639 billion VND, with a deployment schedule of about 2 years, equivalent to 730 days. This is the main road leading to Cat Lai ferry (connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Nhon Trach district) to National Highway 51, and intersects with the Ring Road 3 project – one of the key projects of the entire Dong Nai Southeast region recently. At the same time, it is the main road leading to many factories and industrial zones in the area. Major infrastructure projects being invested in Nhon Trach (Dong Nai). Photo: HV After being expanded from 7m to 53-80m, the Ton Duc Thang road section will have a width of 24m, with sidewalks on both sides measuring 15-20m in width, investing in drainage systems, signs, traffic lights. Since the bidding package was opened (end of 2023), the road has been cleared of wild grass to begin the expansion process. After Tet Nguyen Dan, the construction units have also resumed operations. In contrast to the narrowness of this section of the road, the Ton Duc Thang road section from Nhon Trach District Administrative Center to National Highway 51 has been expanded for a long time, with a road surface width of about 50-60m. A few kilometers away from the Nhon Trach District Administrative Center is the Nhon Trach Industrial Zone. After the Ton Duc Thang road is expanded, the Ring Road 3 and Nhon Trach Bridge are completed, the travel time from here to the center of Ho Chi Minh City will be only about 30 minutes. Currently, Nhon Trach (Dong Nai) has 9 operating industrial zones and is one of the 2 districts with the most industrial zones in Vietnam. With the completion deadline set for 2...
