This past Saturday, Overland Park City Council members and staff joined the Public Works Department for their annual construction tour, starting with a visit to the Fire Training Center and Traffic Control System. This event encourages collaboration between city leadership and the experts behind key infrastructure projects, such as the 2024 Street Improvement Project and College and Metcalf Mobility Enhancements. Thank you to the Public Works team for guiding the tour and sharing your insights! Learn more about ongoing construction at https://bit.ly/3T8foM3.

As the pre-build continues, we have the corners of the buildings staked out and we should be breaking ground next week. Take a moment when you are near 1050 N Harvey Mitchell Parkway to see what's happening! Dr. Baggs

Join the Holding Redlich Construction & Infrastructure team this Thursday (7 December) at 7.45am as we round out the year by rounding up the most important construction cases from the past 12 months. Stephen Burton, Kirsty Smith, Tarin Olsen, Andrea Wilson and I will be discussing cases that consider: 🗓 how a party can be caught out over the festive season by serving a payment schedule late; 🏗 when a project owner will be liable for losses suffered by nearby businesses affected by the construction of the project; 💰 how secure is your security: the latest case considering when an attempt to call on security will be restrained; 📝 what constitutes an “other arrangement” that will allow a party to make a valid payment claim under the BIF Act even when there is no contract; and 👷♀️ staged works, separable portions and conditional certificates of practical completion. The GBC planning committee unanimously rejected a planning application for a site allocated in the Local Development Plan, claiming the proposed scheme is not in the right location 😲. Completely messed up! 🙃 #propertydevelopment #surrey #sempreproperty #PlanningFail #LocalDevelopment #UrbanPlanning

Promoter and Designer of State-of-the-Art Transportation Systems that Maximize Passenger Throughput while Stimulating Economies and Preserving the Environment
So let's suppose I get that CEO job with the California High-Speed Rail Authority www.hsr.ca.gov. Here is. what I have in mind. (1) Travel time by mode placemats; (2) Lunches with the CEO as part of a "listening tour"; (3) An all hands meeting to discuss the findings of the "listening tour"; (4) a one-day retreat. to the Grand Island Mansion to strategize completing Merced to Bakersfield by 2028 when the Olympics come to Los Angeles, so that the Basketball events can take place at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento; and (5) the periodic preparation and submission of infographics (highly informational graphics) periodically to the Legislature with special emphasis on the Legislators who are on the High-Speed Rail Board. The current timeframe for Merced to Bakersfield is 2033. This is unacceptable. We really need to hit the 2028 target. This will save the taxpayers of California billions of dollars.

Very useful visual guide to understanding the Labour aspirations for 'grey-belt' land. Summix
We’ve announced new house building targets. To meet these new targets, councils may have to review their green belt. And where land in the grey belt is developed, it will need to meet these new golden rules announced by the Deputy PM Angela Rayner

It was great to join DDC Commissioner Thomas Foley, P.E., and DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez this morning at New York Building Congress panel and share all the ways we’re building a stronger, safer, more resilient future. Thank you Carlo Scissura for the opportunity to share the role and remit of the public realm team at City Hall. To recap, we are focused on doing 3 things: 1. Hardware - Advancing transformative public space projects to make sure they happen on time and on budget. From Fifth Avenue and Broadway Vision to Chinatown Connections and Queensway, we support capital agencies to get them decisions they need to keep projects moving. 2. Software - Creating vibrant public spaces is not just about building new. The real secret sauce is maintenance and programming which can transform the smallest unassuming spaces into something wonderful. Cities need partners to help us do that maintainance and activation work, but we don’t always make it easy for partners. How do we make it easier for partners to do this work in our public spaces? 3. Orgware - Many agencies have various jurisdictions over public spaces. How can city agencies better coordinate their policies, rules, regulations, and plans in a comprehensive way that is easier to understand for people to understand and navigate? We’re off & running at our Construction Industry Breakfast with our panel of DDC Commissioner Tom Foley, Chief Public Realm Officer Ya-Ting Liu & DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. It’s going to be a lively conversation about collaboration & innovation. Many thanks to our co-hosts Bravo & STV.
