In your opinion, what are the greatest needs for improving equitable access to outdoor recreation in our community?
AND/OR
What role could organizations play in addressing these needs?
These are two questions being asked on a local survey by an outdoor recreation company here in #STL.
I like the questions, but I always see people like me in the outdoors and I have resources to do almost any activity, so I don't think I am quite the right person to ask these questions to.
What are your thoughts?

As a former Parks and Recreation professional I can say the episodes I did watch did have some similarities.
There are many days I miss the profession, being surrounded by so many peers who are very passionate about their careers.
Parks and Recreation professionals provide programs and services for people when they are not working. Thus, typically involves many nights and weekends. Parks and Recreation professionals also where many hats. Marketing, Budgeting, Leadership, and Creative Programming. If you were in facilities you also developed a skill set in understanding Safety, OSHA, Project Management, Janitorial, HVAC, Electrical and unfortunately Plumbing.
Hats off to my past professional peers, colleagues, friends.

Park and recreation professionals often get asked, “Is it like the show?”
The show in question is the sitcom Parks and Recreation. Leslie Knope, deputy director of the parks department in fictional Pawnee, Indiana, wants to beautify her town by assisting local nurse Ann Perkins in transforming an abandoned construction site into a communal park. Numerous obstacles impede the progress of what ought to be a rather straightforward project! It’s hilarious, but is it an accurate depiction of working for a park and recreation department in local government? The answer is yes! Well, sort of.

Its been a decade since I started building coliving communities in my first coliving space.
Back then, Hosting events = Community building.
But so much has changed since then.
Community-building frameworks have evolved.
We have seen the practical success and failure of approaches that were once theoretical.
I have gathered all my learnings from working on community building in the article under the following:
- Defining the Purpose and Values of the Coliving Community
- Fostering Open Communication and Conflict Resolution
- Hosting Meaningful Community Events
- Balancing Privacy and Community
- Leveraging Technology for Coliving Community Engagement at Scale
- Fostering a Sense of Ownership and Responsibility
In conclusion, today's coliving community building approaches require a thoughtful blend of intentional design, open communication, and fostering meaningful connections.
What according to you are non-negotiables in community building?
Read mine in the article I recently wrote in comments.
Gui Perdrix would love to have your thoughts here.

Many municipalities are home to terrain that has no obvious use, with too many rocks, trees, or hills to build traditional recreation facilities.
