If a Football Club is Recruiting for a Specific Position, Should They Look at Players Specifically Operating in that Position? In my opinion the answer to this question is a Resounding No!!! Let’s be more specific. Should a Club Searching for a Right Back Exclusively Look at Right Backs? A players position is often determined by a Specific Coach or the Group-Think of a Football Department. The assumption that a given Coach or Football Departments is operating at an optimum level is a mistake that should be factored into your process. Matty Cash spent a lot of his career at Nottingham Forest as an Attacking Midfielder. He’s now embedded into the Right Back Position in a good Aston Villa Team. Finally it’s also important to understand the evolution of a Player’s Position based on where he/she is in their career.

Last Friday, I took in the season home opener for my Atlanta Braves, and spent the evening (VERY LOUDLY) cheering on my team, AND a friend's son who had recently been traded to Atlanta. The stadium was totally ON FIRE..and I was absolutely there for it! I always cheer on my favorite teams, but Friday night brought an extra dose of excitement when my friend's son took the field (and crushed a few at bats!). I felt so excited for her & so stinkin' proud to have her son represent our great city. My guess is that most of the people in the stands that night had no personal tie to any of the players - yet everyone was losing their voices screaming and cheering them on, just as I was! This sparked a thought: Why do we often find more enthusiasm in cheering for sports teams & entertainers we don't even know, than cheering for those in our own lives? Why do we spend thousands to attend games, shows & concerts, while only quietly supporting those around us in their personal and professional endeavors? Why not bring more of this energy to our daily lives, and cheer for and support our people with the same intensity? You know what I always say: KNOW Your People FIND Your People LOVE 'Em Hard Let's get out there & do more of that! The concept this week. You don’t need luck; you need to do your best. As a football fan, I always look forward to the upset victories. Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals have made it increasingly difficult for smaller colleges to compete with the traditional powerhouses in the current college football landscape. Insert Northern Illinois’ upset victory over #5 Notre Dame. Notre Dame paid NIU almost 1.5 Million dollars to play them in South Bend, under the pretense that they would win big. As the number 5 ranked college football program in the country, Notre Dame was favored to win by four touchdowns against NIU. Last week, Notre Dame beat nationally ranked Texas A&M in College Station, and everyone believed that the Fighting Irish were on their way to the College Football Playoffs. Not so fast, my friends (Lee Corso Voice). NIU’s starters were primarily juniors and seniors who had been in the program for a long time. They know exactly what’s required; they have 10k+ hours in the program. After NIU beat ND, the post-game reporter asked the NIU head coach, Thomas Hammond, what he shared with the team to inspire them to win. Hammond responded, “I told my team we didn’t need luck; we just needed our best.” Don’t bet on luck this week if you don’t have to. Trust and believe in your best. Believing and obsessing about improving your best helps you avoid being outcome-oriented, keeps you present, and helps you progress towards that ‘big opportunity’. Look at this post-game interview! The parallels between sports and business are undeniable. Last night, the Celtics closed out a sweep of the Pacers to win the Eastern Championship. Each game was closely contested (game 2 not as much), yet the Celtics prevailed in all of them, showing that being just a little bit better than the competition, can make all the difference.
