*HAPPY CITY HALL SELFIE DAY* Happy #CityHallSelfie Day from staff at the City of Sun Prairie! We look forward to showing off our local gov love every year with this activity organized by ELGL: Engaging Local Government Leaders! This year, we wanted to highlight one of Sun Prairie's most cherished events, the Sun Prairie Sweet Corn Festival! We incorporated the theme of "Let's Get Corny"! The Sweet Corn Festival is an annual event held to celebrate the region's agricultural heritage, particularly its sweet corn, which is a local specialty. It will take place this year from August 14 to August 18. Check out more details here: https://lnkd.in/gm9cjy4g

I have heard about Groundswell for years, and was thrilled to finally get my feet on the Cherry Family’s farm in Hertfordshire. As the opening act of the morning, I showed some Roots So Deep clips and talked science results - and really enjoyed the extended Q&A with the 350 or so early morning attendees. I got to hang out with the Wildfarmed crew and the Yeo Valley Organic team – and basically eat my way across the festival. I hope this becomes an annual pilgrimage. Have a listen to this - our good farmers should be supported by our councils, but not thwarted or constrained by obstructive layers of bureaucracy…. Catchment groups(well resourced) and catchment plans and community leadership go hand in hand with agile farming leaders being lighthouses for others. There’s a place for regulation for sure but there’s also a place for independant community led change based on good science and catchment plans.
John Burke, is keen to see all farms get on a journey of farm planning. His experience with 20 years of applying a plan to their Bay of Plenty farm has resulted in a more profitable, lower footprint farm with 1/3 of the farm restored into a mix of exotics and natives. GHG, and contaminant loss is more than half of what it was, and profit is signficiantly more. On the 13th of March at Bay Venues, Tauranga, we will showcase what leading farmers and businesses are doing to significantly reduce their farming footprint, improving business resilience, while also helping local communities improve land practices.

Co-Founder / Director of Partnerships and Collaboration at Restorative Farms, Dallas, Texas ...Co-Founder - Food Desert Solutions / Arts of Oppression - Prison Art Show, Dallas, TX
Great ideas are a time a dozen... Bringing them to fruition is something else. Hats off to my Restorative Farms co-founder, Owen Lynch, Larry Henderson (DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) and Jenny Eyer (American Heart Association) for getting this project off the ground....and to our stalwart Restorative Farms team of farmers and food system practioners who really make it happen. And while, I'm at it...thank you, Nadine S. Lee for your ongoing support. This innovative farmers market could be the stepping stone toward something even more impactful—permanent local produce stores in our most underserved communities. We view the DART line as an “artery”.. bringing aspiring urban farmers and comminity shoppers to our Hatcher Station Training Farm.. it also serves as a potential conduit to bring fresh produce directly to communities with limited access to healthy food. This pilot farmers market not only addresses immediate nutritional needs but also demonstrates the demand for fresh, locally grown options. As this pilot program gains traction, it can pave the way for sustainable, long-term solutions such as establishing permanent produce stores and provide consistent access to nutritious food, empowering residents to make healthier choices while supporting local agriculture. This market is a practical, on-the-ground model that works. With DART’s reach, could eventually become a network of local food hubs, transforming Dallas food deserts into thriving, food-secure communities.
Since its founding in 2017, Restorative Farms has been dedicated to building a South Dallas urban agrisystem, firmly believing in the power of collaboration. One such partnership with DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) enabled us to launch the Hatcher Station Training Farm in 2019. Over the years, our collaboration with DART has delivered meaningful benefits to underserved communities as we work toward our goal to "Grow A Better Dallas.” In 2023, we expanded our impact with a “Food As Medicine” initiative, which evolved into a new partnership with both DART and now, the American Heart Association. Through the support and shared vision of these two organizations, we are proud to pilot a weekly farmers market at DART’s Akard Station, offering fresh produce to individuals who rarely have access to it or to a farmers market. An innovative project, this is just the beginning of a larger vision that aims to mitigate the devastating effects of food deserts, enhance community health, benefit local growers and bolster a vibrant local agrisystem. The program will run through the end of October, delivering fresh, locally grown produce to North Texans every Wednesday this month—and that's truly #SomethingGood. A strong shoutout to Larry Henderson and Jenny Eyer for their vision. Thank you, NBC5 Dallas for shining a light on this project. #GrowABetterDallas #DallasUrbanFarming #HatcherStationTrainingFarm #communityimpact #economicimpact #FoodAsMedicine #CommunityEmpowerment #SouthDallas #NutritionAwareness #SustainableLiving #LocalProduce #HealthyCommunities #foodjustice #fooddesertsolutions https://lnkd.in/g9W9qVtt

Great article on the spread of this invasive tree.
No April Fools Joke here. Callery pear including Bradford, Aristocrat, Captial, and Chanticleer (Cleveland Select) are starting to bloom. These stinkers are starting to escape cultivation and are no longer recommended to be planted with established populations found in both Douglas and Lancaster counties.
