This is part of the Gluas philosophy of promoting Transit Oriented Development as part of the overall solution for Galway. https://lnkd.in/ggcQWrH "Shared walking and bike riding path open The 5.7-kilometre shared path from Carlingford to Tramway Avenue in Parramatta is now open. Delivered as part of the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 project, the shared path is a public area designated for the use of walking and bicycle riding. It can be identified by signs and/or pavement markings showing a pedestrian and a bike." This aligns with the Gluas view that cycling and walking, (as well as buses), are part of the solution and must be considered and accommodated.

Network Rail and Lambeth unveil vision for Waterloo station and surrounding area. London Borough of Lambeth and Network Rail have released their long-term plan for the future development of London Waterloo station and the surrounding Waterloo and South Bank area. The London Waterloo Station vision sets out a series of long-term aspirations to deliver improvements to both the station and wider area that will further improve the wider neighbourhood and make it easier and safer for people to move around, promote active travel and support the local economy. The vision outlines a number of suggested improvements and upgrades including: - Better Connections – 40+ enhanced walking and cycling routes, and 15+ improved gateways to the station and the City, helping encourage more active forms of travel and onward travel from the station. - Redesigned northern concourse – A remodelled entrance at the northern end of the station to better interact with the public realm and surrounding areas immediately outside the station. - New, southern station concourse – A new concourse in the south of the station to help improve passenger flow in, out and through the station, make the station even easier to navigate and reduce congestion on the existing concourse. - Enhanced public spaces – New and improved multi-generational, inclusive and safe public spaces. - More green infrastructure – 1,900m2 of new green space around the station with proposals for hundreds of new trees. - Enhanced bus and taxi interchange – some existing bus and taxi stops will be relocated to a new enhanced interchange on the south-eastern side of the station, providing easier and more direct access. - Creation of new workspace, a retail and leisure offer and employment opportunities. Network Rail and London Borough of Lambeth, in partnership with South Bank Employers Group (SBEG), South Bank BID, WeAreWaterloo Business Improvement District (BID) and local developers HB Reavis, Bourne Capital, LCR, and SB Royal Holdings commissioned Grimshaw Architects to develop the Vision document as a framework to help realise Waterloo’s full potential as a connected, safe, and thriving net-zero neighbourhood with an integrated world-class station at its heart.... Exciting news for Queensland! The proposed direct rail line connecting Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Brisbane has been announced. This project is expected to unlock new job opportunities and housing possibilities for one of Queensland's fastest-growing regions. The Queensland Government is committing an initial $2.75 billion and requested an additional $1.15 billion from the Federal Government to deliver Stage 1 of the Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line project, project to be complete before the 2032 Olympics. With the Sunshine Coast population forecast to house 600,000 residents by 2046, this development is a much-needed step towards accommodating the region's growing population. Originally announced in 2005, this project has been a long pipe dream. Proposed permanent full and partial road closures: The City of Cape Town's Transport Directorate plans to permanently close certain roads to vehicular traffic, as part of the design phase for Phase 2A of MyCiTi services. The closures will include stations, intersection improvements, and dedicated public transport lanes. ⏱ The land is just sitting there... quietly waiting. This could be the North's third most connected #rail station after Piccadilly and Leeds. The linchpin of the #NorthernPowerhouse Rail network. Not only the most logical site for the beginning of a new intercity Castlefield Bypass tunnel via Piccadilly, but also an ideal interchange. 📍 Strategically located to improve access to North Manchester, #MediaCityUK and #SalfordQuays, with connections to the #BeeNetwork rail and tram lines, the site is crying out for an interchange station. 🚄 #HS2 should absolutely be completed to Manchester, however in the mean time we have to start sorting out the bottleneck which plans via #ManchesterAirport don't adequately address. We need to remove all the fast services, not just a couple. By starting the new #NPR network here with a more incremental approach, passengers across the north would begin to feel benefits sooner, as will the economy. It's developments like this that would spur on #agglomeration and #redevelopment benefits. #ModularIncrementalism could perhaps be the way forward in these turbulent times? Work begins to make space for Leicester railway station transformation

Euroa is one small town on the Inland Rail route. EuroaConnect formed three years ago to insist on good design of the town railway precinct, to ensure that the ARTC built railway infrastructure that reflected the town’s heritage, and to re-connect the town’s north and south sides rather than continue its geographical division. DesignEuroa is a group that includes other design and architecture expertise that is committed to place-based community design solutions. Success looks like: the community has succeeded in getting ARTC to commit to road under rail rather than a new and massive bridge at the central railway line crossing. This took 2300 signatures on a community-parliamentary petition, a senate committee hearing presentation, multiple community meetings, weekly meetings of the community working group, and persistent advocacy. Ongoing challenges look like: two things remain outstanding - saving the 1873 galvanised iron railway goods shed (now with the Hetitage Council) and constructing a pedestrian underpass joining Binney Street to the railway station. Good design looks like: this banner photo of a good pedestrian underpass was erected on the building at the end of Binney Street by community members this #Easter weekend. Imagine a community proposal for the pedestrian underpass being adopted. We know this could be done. Community will continue to press for this to happen. You be the judge. Looks pretty good to those of us who dreamed it up and saw it unveiled. Thanks to the cyclist for scale!
