[Our own way 🙌] Acting for the community 🚢 Sully-Miller Contracting Co., a California-based Colas company, recently completed the Port of Los Angeles’ Wilmington Waterfront Promenade! Los Angeles has been working to revitalize the Wilmington neighborhood near the port for years. This waterfront park features a number of new amenities for the local community and is part of the city’s larger redevelopment program. Some notable features of the project: -Built on a 30-acre (around 12 hectares) brownfield site, -Required major earthworks to create a hill, -Involved the relocation of a road that now circles the park, -Included the construction of a pier, a playground and docks, in addition to a restroom facility built within the hillside featuring a “living roof” that reduces the overall hardscape footprint of the site while adding to its aesthetics. Of particular note, because the construction took place on the waterfront, teams had to adapt their schedules to the ocean tides to prevent the underground works from being flooded. What a fantastic transformation, well done to all those companies and individuals involved.
👏 A big well done to the Markey Building Services team on completing the extension of the existing petrol forecourt store at Huntley in Gloucestershire, just a stone's throw from Markey's head office in Gloucester. The extension almost doubled the existing premises' size and included a new car park, jet wash, EV bays, and a new forecourt. The project looks fantastic and Gardner Garages has already received a great response from customers, including some fabulous feedback. Markey Building Services operates nationally and we look forward to showing some more of our completed projects over 2024!

🔵 Story Eats 🔵 Coming to a platform near you! Another excellent weekend working on Biggleswade station, where we were entrusted with delivering crucial platform hoarding works, during the 102hr blockade and to top it off, pizzas, cans of pop, cakes and donuts were supplied to keep everyone’s moral high and productivity at a maximum! During my drive home I sat and thought about how great the rail community is. So much work crammed into such a short space of time, with no option for anything to overrun. This weekend was a fine example of that. The culture in rail is to all muck in and get your hands dirty, help other trades and work cooperatively alongside each other. There were senior members of staff, blending in with the rest of the girls and boys, shoveling, pushing barrows, loading material out, showing that no matter your position, everyone is equal and nobody’s job role is more important than the projects timeley completion. Far too often do we see finger pointing exercises when things start to slow down or issues occur, not on the rail, and I definitely think it’s something other sectors should learn from. Anyway, as one weekend flies by, another one is incoming and we will be starting works on Dore and Totley station as we continue with works on the Hope Valley project 💪 #fencing #railindustry Metcalfe Fencing and Land Services

"One of the main contractors for Micron, Hammon said, promised that hundreds of workers finishing projects in Arizona, Nevada and elsewhere would move to Idaho to work on the project. “Where do they live? How do they eat? What doctors do they see? Where do they shop?” Hammon said. “There are not enough RV parks in the Treasure Valley to house these people. There are not enough open apartments and homes to house these people.” This is a timely and accurate observation by you Scot Eastman. The homegrown people of Boise already live through these problems due to the meteoric rise in lodging prices in every sector (home buying, home leasing, work-related suite rentals) with low inventory. Who cares about their needs? After the temporary workforce comes and goes back to their lives elsewhere, what remains for Boiseans? It would be wise to beef up infrastructure for the people who live, work and play here. Waterwalk does offer an innovative approach that is more than economics. They offer an environment that is as close to feeling like home as you can find anywhere in Treasure Valley for professionals working away from home. Hilton doesn't have it. Mariott doesn't have it.
