#Governance is for citizens. Then why should they not participate in it. Over the past few weeks we have been focussing attention on the problems of cities and discussing ways to allow citizens to be part of the solution. Jens Kimmel speaks to #UrbanInsights about #ConsulDemocracy, an open source solution that evolved out of a demand from citizens of Madrid and is now helping cities across Europe and Latin America share views, bid for projects based on participatory budgeting and public voting for projects and processes to do with the city. Can India take a leaf out of this process. #cities #governance #participatorygovernance #roleofcitizens https://lnkd.in/g27xxpJf

This article captivated me, particularly because it resonates with a question I previously posted: "How do people perceive polarizing elected officials or those who serve with a single objective in mind? Is there a growing disconnect between municipal governments and the silent majority? in simple terms is the gap between local governments and the silent majority growing?" CBC journalist Justin McElroy skillfully showcased the clash between residents and council at recent council meeting in Sayward, B.C. Mr. McElroy further discusses the transformation of trivial matters into politicized debates, against the need to ensure progressing municipal operations. This community in five years has replaced the Chief Administrative Officer 5 times, but on the other hand Mr. McElroy observed, "It often has less to do with policy and more with personalities, a trend that is increasingly evident in these discussions." So, is this occurring more frequently than we're prepared to acknowledge? Do you think that politics driven by personalities is turning into a more pressing concern in local government?

The Government wants to rent a building Purportedly named after GC Sir Michael Somare. The funny thing is this.. the CS said, we want to streamline Govt Operations to foster closer coordination between 3 Arms of Govt. My Question is this; 1. Are the 3 Arms of Govt constitutionally Independent? 2. At this Age of Tech, do you need to be physically close to foster collaboration? 3. Do you need to move away from Manasupe haus to streamline Govt Operations? What's wrong with Manasupe Haus? You cant streamline Govt Operations there? Is Manasupe too far for any collaboration work? 4. People of PNG are never stupid and will never be stupid... Just say, we want to rent and give money to some Asians partnering with PNGans who supported Govt .
#NATIONAL: He further stated, "This move of offices from Sir Manasupe Haus is a key part of our strategy to streamline Government operations and foster closer coordination between the Executive, Judiciary, and Legislature." Read more here: ( https://lnkd.in/gBEmf7TC )

Chief Executive, Association of Scotland's Self-Caterers * CEO of the Year * Outstanding Contribution to Tourism * Director, Scottish Agritourism * Scottish Tourism Alliance Policy Group
Fiona Campbell, CEO of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers, said: “The ASSC remains in dialogue with both national and local government in order to establish a fair, legal and proportionate regulatory framework. In the spirit of constructive engagement, we presented legally robust proposals to Edinburgh Council to address specific challenges in light of the recent Judicial Review, which we believe would be a win-win scenario for both parties. "Let us be clear: the industry wants to be regulated and for us to move forward together. We believe the Council has the tools to effectively regulate short-term lets, while at the same protecting the small number of professional operators who are so vital to meeting the accommodation needs of this city. "Without meaningful changes to provide legitimate businesses the clarity and assurance they desperately need, the economic and cultural consequences loom large. This includes the continued viability of our world-leading Festivals, the possibility of more lost jobs and livelihoods, as well as the city’s reputation as a place to visit and do business.” https://lnkd.in/evtgzz4X
