The NYAS campaign 'My Things Matter' highlights the need to improve support and respect for care-experienced children and their belongings when they move. 1 in 3 children will move this year (26,000) 3 in 5 report some belongings lost or damaged. The campaign calls for authorities to ensure children's most precious belongings are kept safely with them when they move. Photos and mementoes are frequently lost. Foster carers report to us at My Story Organisation having created life memory books of children's time with them, only to find these same children returning in the future asking if they have any photos of them. Photos and mementoes supporting life memories are vital for identity. Where these exist they must be kept securely and moved safely when a young person has to move. Digital technology solutions such as developed by local authorities and My Story Organisation do ensure life stories are maintained securely and move with a young person.
