🇺🇦 Marking the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine's Independence in #GreenvilleSC. Mayor Knox White issued a proclamation surrounded by members of our Ukrainian community.
The proclamation declares that "Ukraine has shown resilience, determination and a steadfast commitment to freedom and democracy" and went on to say "the Ukrainian community in Greenville serves as a vibrant part of our population, enriching our state with their traditions, language, music, dance and culinary heritage."
Greenville is grateful to be a safe home to a robust Ukrainian community. When Ukraine was first invaded we were asked to raise a flag. Ukrainian flags were in high demand at the time and could not be quickly purchased. Greenville residents sewed us a flag, that while worn and a bit faded, still flies proudly outside City Hall today.
🌍 Let's not turn a blind eye to the ongoing events in Ukraine. The Ukrainian people are not merely defending their borders; they are championing the principles of democracy and the right to forge their own path. It serves as a poignant reminder that the struggle for freedom persists, and the global community must not forget the sacrifices and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
In the face of adversity, let's unite in solidarity with Ukraine. The choices they make daily not only impact their nation but also influence the cherished values we hold worldwide. It's a clarion call for the international community to rally behind a nation striving for peace and democratic ideals.
So, world, ARE YOU STILL WATCHING?🇺🇦

We are all on a collective journey towards Decolonization, De-Globalization, and the dissolvement of all forms of capitalized state wealth consolidation { individual and collective corruption }.
Thus the necessity of shifting towards #BRICS Multipolarity and Multilateralism, and actively shifting away from Collective Western Hegemony.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ruled that Apartheid Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is illegal and that it should come to an end “as rapidly as possible”.
___
Apartheid Israel is occupying and colonising Palestinian land, discriminating against Palestinian citizens of Israel and denying Palestinian refugees the right to return to their homes. Inspired by the South African anti-apartheid movement, the BDS call urges action to pressure Apartheid Israel to comply with international law.
BDS is now a vibrant global movement made up of unions, academic associations, churches and grassroots movements across the world. Since its launch in 2005, BDS is having a major impact and is effectively challenging international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.

Today, on Ukrainian Unity Day, we celebrate the unwavering spirit of a nation that has defied division for centuries. It is a day to remember the historical act of unification in 1919, but also a powerful reminder of the unity we stand in today amidst the ongoing war with Russia. 🇺🇦
The struggle for Ukrainian independence has been long and arduous. For centuries, our lands were divided and ruled by foreign powers. Yet, the dream of a unified Ukraine never died. This dream materialized on January 22, 1919, when the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic signed the Treaty of Unity. This act, though short-lived, marked a momentous step towards Ukrainian statehood.
Today, as we face the renewed threat of Russian aggression, Ukrainian unity is stronger than ever. Despite the devastation and displacement caused by the war, our people stand together in unwavering defiance. We are united by our language, our culture, our history, and our unwavering belief in a free and independent Ukraine.
This Unity Day is not just a commemoration of the past; it is a testament to the resilience and strength of the Ukrainian people in the present. It is a day to honor the countless heroes who have fought and sacrificed for our freedom, and to pledge our continued commitment to the cause of Ukrainian unity.
Слава Україні! Героям слава!

On January 22, we honor the 105th anniversary of the Unification Act of 1919, when two Ukrainian republics united into one state. The Ukrainian People’s Republic (UPR) and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR) were two states that emerged from the collapse of Russia and Austria-Hungary in 1918. This act showed our desire for a free and independent Ukraine, and rejected Russian lies about our nation.
Today, we remember our ancestors and heroes who fought for our unity and freedom. We also work together to build a democratic, prosperous, and European Ukraine that respects all its citizens.

Today, our country celebrates the Day of Ukrainian #Statehood for the third time. Although this holiday is a relatively new one, the value of it could not be clearer at at this moment in time. After all, it is our own statehood that we are fighting for right now.
This day symbolizes our national #identity, and the pride we take in our centuries-old history and our pursuit of independence. Ukrainian statehood is the result of the efforts made by our ancestors. It is their dream, for which several generations have fought.
I, for one, am particularly inspired by the fact that #Ukraine, as a state, is the successor to one of the most powerful European countries of the Middle Ages - Kievan Rus. According to the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, our coat of arms, in the form of a trident, our currency, the hryvnia, and even the name "Ukraine" are all part of our heritage, dating back to the 10th century. This means that our statehood has been developing for over a thousand years. We also inherited the yellow-and-blue flag from the of Galicia–Volhynia Principality - one of the most powerful state entities of the 14th century. Our country was also the birthplace of one of the first ever constitutions - we owe the Hetman of the Zaporizhian Host, Pylyp Orlyk (who was hetman in exile) a big debt of thanks for that.
And those are just a few of the historical facts we could mention. For the truth is that our statehood has the same deep roots as many other European countries. And the proclamation of an Independent Ukraine in 1991 was another step on the path toward its formation. Not the first step. And not the last.
Building a state is a difficult journey that requires zeal, and also the wisdom and unity of millions of people. We must therefore do everything we can to preserve it and pass it on to future generations. Ukraine is our pride, our home, our hope. Let's protect her and #celebrate her!
