It has been two months since Curtin University's 2024 Ignition Program, and this year, the City sponsored two delegates, including Selina Peng, a qualified social worker with an established at-home practice in Shenton Park. Selina said, "The program was an incredible, hands-on introduction to the world of entrepreneurship. I had the chance to meet so many amazing, like-minded people all working on solving unique problems in creative and innovative ways." "My biggest takeaway was learning how to make decisions based on data and staying flexible when things change. The program made me realise that my original business idea wasn't going to work, which has given me the clarity and confidence to pivot early and move forward in a completely new direction, armed with the tools and knowledge I gained." "The program gave me the momentum to co-found a brand-new business idea with my husband, and things have been moving quickly ever since! If you have the time, energy, and focus to fully dedicate a week to exploring the potential of your idea or business, I can't recommend Ignition enough."

Last night, I got to attend Global Entrepreneurship Week Sacramento kickoff event at the Carlsen Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. During Victor W. Hwang and Jermaine Carter-Gibson fireside chat, the concept of "entrepreneurship accessibility" and financial literacy resonated deeply. Growing up, I didn't learn essential skills like creating a balanced budget, opening a bank account, or the importance of credit through school. I was lucky to find guidance for that outside of school, but this shouldn’t be left to luck. Today, with AI tools improving our access to information more than ever. Imagine a world where every high school graduate understands budgeting basics, business structures like LLCs versus S-Corps, and how to start building credit early. These fundamental skills could launch the next generation of entrepreneurs, creatives, artists, and inventors much sooner. Thanks Cameron R. Law and the Carlson Center team for putting on this weeks series of events together 👏

40% of the start-ups fail in the first year 60% of them fail in 5 years There’s no one reason for their failure. → Lack of funds → Poor management → Unforeseen contingencies → Evolving markets → Huge losses Or it could just be any other reason That’s why they say Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone When we first started, We had no idea how to scale it. But we kept trying & left no stone unturned. We found a pivotal point We change our business model Sticking to the objective of Making an impact! → Help students afford the education they deserve! That’s when SecureMyScholarship was born After 1000s of rejections (literally), After disbursing $9.5M as scholarships I’m sure it has helped each of them reduce at least a small part of their financial burden. I know entrepreneurship isn’t easy. But today, 90% of our students come from working class, Who now dare to dream beyond affordability Decided to uplift their careers And chose a better life! Leaving an impact, Gives me a satisfaction, That makes all the risks worth taking!! PS: Entrepreneurship is hard, but that’s what makes it amazing!
