“We don’t need to overengineer it. This is clean and simple. It is good.” When one of our payment tech clients said this, Divyank and I had big smiles. Simplicity and minimalism are the way we do things. And end-consumers like it, too. It is easier to deliver, explain, and reap benefits from. Normally, we recommend brands to go that way. But when someone comes to us with a brief that already has such sensibilities, it’s like a dream come true. It’s heartening to see that they understand that payments, technology, and the ecosystem in general are complicated. Big words may scare people away. Fancy stuff is unnecessary. We need to make efforts to ensure simple delivery. And results come automatically.

I always had a gut feeling that Minna Technologies product proposition was unique. My mind travels back to 2019. As Head of Product Management - I was meeting various start-ups and scale-ups to see, if there was any product-fit with our customer proposition. A colleague had met Minna before and had passed on their lead to me. During my initial meeting with Joakim Sjöblom - two things stood out. Joakim's energy and passion about Minna & subscription management as a service was infectious. He clearly convinced us that subscription management would be a feature in the app that will bring massive benefits to the customer (managing money better) and to the bank (cost, revenue, customer stickiness). I, then met Jonas Karles - another Minna stalwart who was equally convinced about subscription management. I still have the Minna cap that was given to me as a present by Jonas. During the next year or so, I was introduced to Tiama Hanson-Drury. Minna's core team and I frantically worked to design & develop a proposition that we wanted to bring to the UK market (it would have been a first). I still vividly remember the MVP customer journey that we had built together. Due to 'n' number of reasons the partnership never fructified. Fast forward to 2021 - the discussion was re-initiated by another Minna stalwart Navpreet Randhawa. Navi and I had multiple rounds of discussion and conversation. Though, we haven't spoken to each other for a long time, I consider Navi as a close acquaintance. In the end, nothing concrete happened, but in the process I met some amazing talents at Minna. To see the news that MasterCard has acquired Minna makes me nostalgic and also makes me wonder about the could have's & possibilities. In the end, I'm proud and privileged to have had the wonderful foresight to identify a top product company when it was still maturing. Who knows - what hasn't been possible so far, maybe a possibility in the near future. 📣Newsflash: Mastercard acquires Minna Technologies! Fun trivia? I pitched Minna on the Swedish version of Dragons' Den which aired on TV back in March 2015. A decade later I'm happy to share the news that Minna is joining the Mastercard family and I'm more than confident that this is a great stepping stone to continue the growth trajectory across continents! Respect and gratitude to everyone who's been a part of this journey, internal and external, colleagues, partners, customers and investors. Special kudos to co-founders Jonas Karles and Marcus Lönnberg. There are memories, learnings, and friendships in abundance that will never fade. I'm lucky to have been part of this journey from Sweden to the Nordics to Europe and finally into the US.
