What I like about GenAI with Civils.ai is the multiplier effect it has for my team. Beyond my own productivity, it improves my project team's productivity by being able to move design discussions which are held up by a need to check the Code.
It also empowers younger engineers/ architects and frees up time from senior engineers/ architects in answering code-based queries to work on problems which require deeper analysis and thought!
Using Genai doesn't just improve individual productivity, it improves team productivity as well. I'll just give a recent example of when I was in a design discussion with my architect and many colleagues. The mech engineer brought up that rise as could have compartmentation every three floors, but he had to check with the fire code to confirm. For a CNS engineer like me, fire code is out of my expertise, but I decided to ask a prompt. Lo and behold, it gave some information and pointed to the exact clause to help us further our discussion quickly. This can also empower younger engineers and architects by reducing their learning time. Senior staff could reduce the time spent answering such questions and work on more value added work which requires analysis and thinking. The next query impressed me quite a bit because Gen. AI managed to identify that made roof is likely to be a non habitable space and gave the answer accordingly. This is definitely more helpful than a Google search or using control F on the document, which requires the knowledge of very specific keywords. I'll round this up with a query my colleague asked me when he came back from a meeting. He knew roughly that it was in one of the LTA Code of Practice document, but he needed to go look it up so he couldn't give the answer on the spot. With Gennai with the right curated knowledge base, the answer was just a prompt away. Hope this little sharing will help with increasing your team's productivity. Bye.
These short stories of how you adopting AI and cases where AI comes in handy over traditional processes are very useful industry sharing. 🙌
I especially like the case where you are in a meeting or a discussion and you are using it to pull up references to help make a decision. I really feel this stuff is the future!
