The great world changing inventions by great inventors. We all know that the first flight that was achieved in Annonay, France, on 4 June 1783 by the Montgolfier brothers. This has even inspired the recent Olympics in Paris. Now, evolving from their invention, another great idea happened to change the way we would generate safety for people flying. The modern parachute was invented in 1783 by Louis-Sébastien Lenormand in France. Lenormand also sketched it beforehand. Two years later, Jean-Pierre Blanchard demonstrated it as a means of safely disembarking from a hot air balloon. Indeed, if we search mankind history, we will have to make some corrections to our vision that inventions are just a one-genius happening (strongly enforced by exagerated hype fancied by popular medias). It appears that in the 9th century, an Arab called Armen Firman jumped from a tower in Cordoba holding a loose cloak with wodden struts to slow down the fall. Then, as with the Arabs, the Chinese also have their attempts, it is alleged that, in the 10th century, some unkown Chinese persons succeeded at base diving; meaning, they jumped off outcroppings using rigid parasols that would allow them to float from a height to the ground. Then, in the 1617 Venice, a parachute test was made by the Dalmatian inventor Faust Vrancic and his designed was based on a drawing done by Leonardo Da Vinci who imagined a conical parachute around 1480. This parachute was shown to work recently. But it was not the first design as Da Vinci was preceded in 1470 by an anonymous inventor also from Italy. Finally, in 1911, Grant Morton achieved the first parachute jump from an airplane which as a Wright Model B, at Venice Beach, California.
