Happy Friday! 🎉 We truly have the most fascinating people at LCP Media. One of my favorite things to learn about someone is WHY they do what they do - Nick's story is nothing short of inspiring. His journey to loving software engineering started as a kid, inspired by his father and grandfather, who had computers in their office. He loved exploring the internet, playing video games, and got interested in learning code. By middle school, he was already building websites! Nick also speaks multiple languages and started learning Polish during his internship with us. Did you know that about half of LCP Media is in Poland? (I still geek out when I have international calls; I am just a small-town girl from Texas—like, how AWESOME!) But my FAVORITE part of Nick's story is he chose to come back to us full-time after graduating from the University of Chicago, which goes to show how great our team is at LCP Media. We are lucky to have him! 👏 Reflecting on Nick's journey made me think about my path to LCP Media as the Marketing Director - As a young girl, I loved making things *look pretty* —if I colored outside the lines in a coloring book, I would literally throw it in the trash! Visually, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. My band-aids had to match my outfits (lol). I loved storytelling and decorating. In middle school, I would spend HOURS redesigning my MySpace profile. I still remember the exact day I got a Facebook account in 9th grade; I loved creating photo albums and sharing my life. I was the girl in my sorority with a GoPro documenting everything! Social media, photography, and videography have ALWAYS been my passions - It's no wonder I do what I do! 🤩 How lucky are we to have the opportunity to do what we love? I challenge you to think about your journey. What were your passions growing up—do they align with what you do now? Share in the comments! ⬇️

Massive respect due to Peter Nguyen, a gutsy 2nd year Computer Science major from Texas A&M who cold-called me looking for an internship. We didn't hire a CS intern this summer, but I insisted on taking Peter Nguyen to lunch to talk tech and counsel him on avoiding a few dozen of the 4.35E12 mistakes I've made. The guy is a confirmed killer with a perfect GPA, a strong tennis game, and baking skills that would humble the Pioneer Woman. The challenge for a guy as precocious and sharp as Peter won't be finding a job, finding a great one, or even making lots of bank. The challenge is that most employers as the Counting Crows once sagely stated will want to "snap (him) up in a butterfly net and just pin (him) down on a photograph album." How do you retain flexibility when you are young and precocious? How do you avoid allowing an employer and their biases define your career? There's no set answer to those questions, but they are questions that should be asked more. Can't wait to see how Peter's career develops and what he builds.

Meet Dartagnan Birnie! CEPS student majoring in Computer Science. Dartagnan was connected with the start-up business Account Tree as a summer intern. Let's take a peek at his new adventure! Explain your job role: On the first day, my bosses Tom and Kevin made it very clear that I would do a little bit of everything. They couldn’t have been more right about this. I have been deeply involved in the software development process, debugging new versions from our build team, conducting sales through phone and email, writing out instructions and mockups for my own ideas that I believe could benefit the product, along with a constantly growing list of other involvements in the company. What impact has the training had on you thus far? What have you learned? This internship has taught me so many valuable skills even through a mere 2 weeks. I have strengthened my knowledge of the office environment, and how open communication is the most crucial force in a well-oiled business. Another being, the importance of proper documentation, and how to present your ideas and yourself in a way that is comprehensive and presentable to a potential client. Lastly, I have learned an unbelievable amount about accounting, financial literacy, and student activity funds to feel comfortable saying I have established an understanding and enjoyment of the industry. What are the best aspects of your job? The best aspect of my job is that I feel valued and am more included than I would’ve expected from an internship. My work, decisions, and opinions are leaving a real impact on our product and the outlook of the company. Both Tom and Kevin frequently ask for my direction and have encouraged me to become part of the discussion in larger meetings, demos, and training sessions. I do not feel like I can ask a bad question in this environment and I am free to behave as myself. Just for Fun Favorite Ice Cream: My favorite ice cream flavor is either Oreo or Maple Walnut.

Okay, real talk about boot camps vs CS degrees 🤔 My take: Why not both...ish? 🤷♂️ Bootcamp: Intense, hands-on, real-world tech. 🚀 CS Degree: Deep dive into theory and algorithms. 🧠 But here's my secret sauce: Internships! 🌟 Bootcamp + Internships = Practical skills + Real-world experience
