The cost of postsecondary education continues to be a dominant concern and barrier for prospective students. This is especially true for those in low-to-middle-income households. For example: 💼 In more than half of the states, students would have to work more than 20 hours per week during the school year and full time during the summer to cover the net price of college. We believe that a quality postsecondary education should be within everyone’s financial reach. Learn more by visiting the State Opportunity Index: https://lnkd.in/g2JSAbMW

Ruth Watkins, Strada’s President of Postsecondary Education, will be moderating a session at the 2024 #BravenSummit titled, “The Power of Internships in Helping Students Secure Quality Jobs After College." Matos Rodríguez (Chancellor of the The City University of New York), Shawn VanDerziel (CEO of National Association of Colleges and Employers), Mo Ramos (Senior Program Manager, Adobe), and Valerie Valle (Braven Fellow and Accelerated Master's Student at Rutgers University), will discuss ways to support college students, especially those who are first in their families to go to college and/or from underrepresented backgrounds, to land quality internships. ➡ https://lnkd.in/ea_-_gya

🤔 Can we find a way to ensure all learners have equitable opportunities to thrive in meaningful careers? At Strada Education Foundation we believe we can, we will and we must! 👍 How will that happen? Check out our 2024 Public Policy agenda, where we have outlined an approach to improving education-to-career pathways at the state and federal level. ✔️ Keep an eye out of more from us as we engage with policymakers and stakeholders to advance these policies and drive meaningful, impactful change in education and the workforce.
Policy–federal and state–is an essential catalyst for the kind of change needed to create more equitable opportunities for all learners. That’s why we’re releasing a policy agenda that supports Strada’s five priority areas. It is our hope that this policy agenda inspires policymakers and other important stakeholders to consider how they can work together to: 💲 Make the costs of postsecondary education and training more affordable for all learners. 💼 Support new approaches to expand access to quality career coaching and work-based learning experiences. 📈 Strengthen data systems so individuals can make informed choices about where and what to study. To achieve the ambitious objectives laid out in this policy agenda, we are committed to working side-by-side with policymakers and our many partners in the field. Only 1 in 5 recent college graduates from four-year institutions experience quality, personalized education-to-career, coaching, during their undergraduate careers encompassing the three elements: guidance, timely information, and support. However, “those in some majors—accounting (29 percent), education (28 percent) and nursing (25 percent)—(are) more likely to have experienced coaching than others. Students who majored in liberal arts and social sciences (16 percent) or psychology (15 percent), on the other hand, were less likely to report having coaching experiences.” – Inside Higher Ed https://lnkd.in/eN_Q3Ycd
Student Success | Career Coaching Can Aid Student Success, but Not Every Student Receives Guidance Students who receive timely information, support and personalized help are more likely to land a job that requires a college degree, but only one in five students receives this kind of support, according to new research from Strada Education Foundation. https://bit.ly/3BLIJ9c
