Teachers are at the core of curbing the learning crisis while also giving children the support they need for their social-emotional development and mental health. This places huge demands on the teaching profession. John McIntosh of STIR Education shows how teacher intrinsic motivation can be a powerful tool to ensure children are well-supported and how we can foster it: http://g.pe/u5mx50PW2wa #TransformingEducation #TeachersTransform #FundEducation

It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek in the #UK and we believe in the importance of supporting children's mental health and well-being, creating a safe space for children to learn and talk about their feelings. In Roots of Empathy, children are taught self-regulation skills. They learn to recognize their feelings and to read the emotional cues of others. This child might only be eight years old, but she is able to identify and manage her own feelings and deal with stress. Roots of Empathy is a trauma-informed programme and assumes that some children in every classroom have been exposed to toxic stress. Dr. Bruce Perry and Dr. Dan Siegel, two heroes in this field, champion Roots of Empathy for its innovative way of supporting children in becoming more resilient. Join us in nurturing empathy and positive mental health in schools. #intc2610 This is an example of a strategy that teachers can implement in their classrooms. Not only is it a great way for students to interact with the activities, but will also help them express their feelings without saying any words. Most of the time students are shy to speak up, so having this type of method in the classroom can help them in being able to express their emotions using graphics and colors.

This is why it is important for schools to engage their teachers in workshops that will help them understand how to easily flag any behaviors or feelings in their students. Also, reflective time everyday, probably after lunch help to know the feelings of your students. Do you have any form of reflection activities in your class? #EducationInsights #educators
